The CW Casts Dove Cameron, Chloe Bennet, & Yana Perrault For The Live-Action ‘Powerpuff Girls’

Looks like The CW found their leading gals for their live-action adaption of The Powerpuff Girls! Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Dove Cameron (Descendants), and Yana Perrault (Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill) will be cast as our favorite crime-fighting, pint-sized superheroes.

The development of the live-action cartoon series was first announced back in August and the pilot order was discussed just last month. Based on Craig McCracken’s Cartoon Network series, the new live-action series will follow Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup as disillusioned twenty-something-year-olds who resent the fact that they lost their childhood to fighting crime.

Bennet has been cast as Blossom; Cameron as Bubbles; and Perrault as Buttercup. As with all live-action adaptations, it’ll have our same favorite characters but with a little twist.

Blossom is still the same Goody-Two-Shoes, perfect child we all grew up with except now she has to deal with feeling anxious and reclusive due to her kid-superhero trauma. She wants to be a leader again but wants to be able to do it on her own terms.

Bubbles was all things sweet and she’ll still be her bubbly self as an adult but now her charming exterior comes with a hidden toughness and wit, probably unexpected to some but not a big surprise to others.

Buttercup was the rebellious and sassy one of the group and much like the stereotype, she’s actually very sensitive on the inside but hides it behind her tough exterior. Unlike her sisters, Buttercup is trying her best to shed her Powerpuff Girl past and live an anonymous life.

The pilot episode of The Powerpuff Girls live-action will be written and executive produced by Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody, as well as have Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden as executive producers. Erika Kennair will produce and Maggie Kelly will direct, with Warner Bros. Television as the production company.

The CW hasn’t released any further information regarding a premiere date for the pilot episode.
