The End of an Era: Farewell to Keeping up with the Kardashians

Once upon a time, we were introduced to a chaotic, but charming family of eight. KrisBruce (now Caitlyn), KourtneyKimKhloéRobKendall, and Kylie stole America’s hearts with their comical antics and storylines that had us glued to our seats. 20 seasons and 14 years later, the legendary reality show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians has come to an epic close.

The show did not end on the happiest of notes, with Kourtney, Kim, and Khloé all experiencing transitions in their individual relationships.

If you’re a long-time watcher of the show, then you know how tumultuous the on-again/ off-again relationship between Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick can be. The question has always been “will they ever get back together?” Well, in the final episode of the series, the two sat down together to discuss the status of their relationship.

Kourtney, spoke of being pressured by her family to get back together with Scott“I’m not going to be made to feel guilty when the things that I’ve asked of you haven’t been done,” Kourtney said to Scott during the tough conversation.

Scott first appeared on KUWTK, as a boyfriend to Kourtney, and has appeared in every season since then. Although the two have not managed to make their relationship work, the two share three children: Mason, 11, and Penelope, 8, as Reign, 6. Scott agreed with Kourtney that he could not fulfill her “needs.”

“I think it’s a lot of pressure when the whole family wants us back together. Kourtney needs certain things from me that I haven’t still been able to provide her, and, you know, I think maybe we have to both realize that maybe we won’t be together and we need to move on completely,” says Scott in a confessional.

The conversation ended with the co-parents on mutual terms. “My whole thing is, I just want you to be happy and feel good. I could never ask for anything else,” Scott said, as Kourtney admits, “And I’m here to help and support you in any way, but life moves on.”

Kourtney Kardashian is now dating musician Travis Barker, while Scott Disick is with model Amelia Hamlin. However, some of us are holding out hope that they will someday make it work!

Kim Kardashian on the other hand opened up about relationship struggles with Kanye West in an emotional conversation with mom, Kris Jenner.

Kim expressed that she was going to a therapist saying “Let me work on myself and see where I’m at – and that’s what I’m so excited for, just like, waking up at 40 and realizing like, I just want total happiness.”

Kim, who many believe is the Kardashians’ claim to fame, admitted to feeling lonely in her relationship, saying she didn’t have anyone to share that “happiness with.” She then continued to her mother, “Like, I do – obviously my kids and everything – but am I just gonna sit here and think, ‘Okay, my kids fulfill me, and I’m good?'”

She also addressed Kanye living in a different state. “I never thought I was lonely…I always thought that’s totally fine, I could just have my kids, my husband moves from state to state,” says Kim.

“And I just am on this ride with him, and I was okay with that and then after turning 40 this year, I realized like, ‘No, I don’t want a husband that lives in a completely different state to me.’ I thought, ‘Oh my God, that’s when we’re getting along the best,’ but then that is sad to me, and that’s not what I want,” she adds.

Khloé Kardashian was contemplating whether or not to move in with boyfriend, Tristan Thompson after he signed with the Celtics.

“Tris and I are in a way better place than we were before, but I’m still trying to navigate my way through my feelings, and I don’t know if I really had time to think about what moving would mean for our relationship,” she said in a confessional.

Khloé and Tristan have experienced multiple public controversies during their relationship. In 2018, a video surfaced of Tristan cheating on Khloé with 2 women, while she was 3 months pregnant. In February of 2019 rumors that Thompson kissed long-time family friend, Jordyn Woods, at a party lead to the couple ultimately splitting. More recently, model Sydney Chase accused Thompson of cheating on Khloé with her.

Regardless of their troubled past, Khloé seemed confident in the idea of moving to Boston for the basketball season with her 3-year-old daughter, True.

“I feel really good about my decision to move to Boston for the NBA season, you know, we’ve spent so much time together during COVID that I think it will be really special for all of us,” she said. “This is such an exciting time and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for my family.”

The show ended with notable members missing. No Caitlyn Jenner and no Rob Kardashian. But the remaining members of the family including Scott, Kylie, and Kendall gathered together to bury a time capsule to commemorate the show.

“We are all here, adding our contributions to that time capsule. I have all of the video interviews, and every family member has something that they would know in 10 years, five years when we dig this up, will bring them back to something about the show,” says Khloé. “I feel like this is a beautiful tribute to say goodbye to Keeping Up.”

The capsule included memorabilia from the show such as Kim’s first perfume, Scott’s “Lord Disick” cape, and Kylie’s infamous lip kits.

Each member reflected upon their experience upon the show but momager, Kris Jenner said it best.

“This is a period in my life that has meant so much to me when I think about season 1 to season 20…Those are my most magical memories” she said through tears.

“No one knows what tomorrow’s going to bring, but I have a grateful heart for all of our fans and all of our followers who have been so loyal. Thank you,” the family matriarch concluded. “Just thank you.”
