“I don’t think it’s a secret that I’m a Christmas music junkie so this has kind of been on the bucket list since I was a child. It’s a little different actually, and has this retro almost Motown feel to parts of it, but is also super fresh and fun,” said Houghton. “I absolutely love that smooth, but upbeat 1970’s Christmas music like Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas” and Stevie Wonder’s “Someday at Christmas.” You also cannot deny the perfection of Mariah’s “Merry Christmas!” “All I Want for Christmas is You” has obviously stood the pop music test of time.”
The video was inspired by Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas is You.” Carey’s hit song, along with other Holiday throwbacks by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway and the Jackson 5 influenced Houghton during the songwriting process for “Blame It On The Snow.” The song started off with an idea Houghton had just weeks ago sitting on a New York City park bench. She scribbled down some thoughts, flew in her producer and took a simple idea to a fully recorded track in just 12 hours.
