Timmy McKeever Opens Up About His Debut Album ‘Devils & Angels’ and His Rising Journey in Country Music (Exclusive)

“Edgy, contemporary, and versatile” is how Nashville-based artist Timmy McKeever describes the sound behind his latest album Devils & Angels

Originally from Huntington Beach, California, the 18-year-old is already taking this year by storm with the recent release of his debut album, a project that he identifies as an “extension of himself” both personally and musically.

“A lot of the album was inspired by two years worth of dating life. I think it’s a great representation of the struggles, as well as the joy you experience when in love,” he tells Celeb Secrets in an exclusive interview. “It was both painful and very fun composing all the music for this project, and I’m very happy it’s finally out for the fans to hear.”

Falling in love with music happened early on in McKeever’s life at the age of 9. Although he didn’t grow up in a musical family, the songwriter first taught himself to play guitar drawing inspiration from his third-grade teacher and through YouTube videos. “By age 11, I was playing in dive bars doing set breaks for bands, and by 12 I was taking trips out to Nashville. I just recently turned 18, and to date, I’ve put almost 400 shows under my belt.”

Along with these early career highlights, he also revealed that he led a 13-person a cappella group in high school — much like Pentatonix — a fun fact that’s impossible not to love.

Diving into the hardships experienced in relationships and love, the album traces the progression of a relationship from its passionate beginnings to its eventual burnout. Devils and Angels is not only the title track, but also one of the eight must-listen songs on the album.

“Bad For Me” and “Chills” are two in particular that McKeever believes will surprise listeners, saying “it’s unlike anything [I’ve] put out in the past” due to their musical vibe. “’Chills’ is about that moment in a burnt-out relationship when you realize you still want to try to reignite the flame, even though it feels like you’re too far gone,” he shares.

With all his success already, McKeever has garnered over 3.3 million streams, including 650,000 within the past month alone.

Both vulnerability and authenticity shape McKeever’s approach to his songwriting and creative inspiration, extending beyond the relational themes conveyed by the album. He explains that “Lightning Speed” is an introspective song reflecting on the impact of the entertainment lifestyle.

“I watched a lot of musicians lose themselves along this road, so I decided to tell the story of so many who have come before me and strayed,” Timmy reveals.

The broad range of influences, from personal experiences to music across various genres and even books, help make McKeever’s sound stand out in front of the rest. He describes his music as a melting pot, “blending all areas of country, pop, rock, and even latin.” With the new year in full swing, McKeever is not slowing down anytime soon. Creating and sharing music is a top priority for the rising star, especially through social media.

While TikTok remains a buzzing hub, it was just last year the singer began leveraging it to promote his music. His efforts have paid off, reaching over 2 million impressions and 300,000 interactions per month, solidifying his connection with fans and audiences worldwide.

“I’m so excited to get on the road again this year and share my music with my fans,” he shares. “I also have a ton of great music that I can’t wait for them to hear as well.”

With a multitude of live performances under his belt, including opening for renowned artists like Cody Johnson, Lee Greenwood, Dylan Scott, Drew Baldridge, Chris Janson, and Frankie Ballard, Timmy McKeever’s career thus far reflects his dedication and growing presence in Country music.
