Get to Know Country’s Next Superstar and the First Signee on Jason Aldean’s Night Train Label, John Morgan (Exclusive)

John Morgan is DEFINITELY someone to keep your eyes (and ears) peeled for! The rising country star released his brand new track “Good With Goodbye one week ago today (July 8th), and we seriously can’t stop streaming it.

Co-written with John Edwards, Kurt Allison and Tully Kennedy AND produced partially by country superstar Jason Aldean, “Good with Goodbye” is Morgan’s third song he has released as an artist. Originating as a songwriter and starting to create music of his own, this is just the beginning of a long and successful career for Morgan.

This hot new track exemplifies Morgan’s musical style perfectly, and it is a clear glimpse into the type of music he will continue to create in the future. It taps into Morgan’s “sad boy country” style, touching on themes of loss, heartbreak and more, all while staying true to the “melodic grit” and “blue-collar toughness” that he is known for.

When asked the meaning/message behind the song, John Morgan revealed to Celeb Secrets in an EXCLUSIVE interview, “It’s one of those songs that like we wrote to kind of, you know, I guess say something that a lot of people go through, which is like, when you’re going through a breakup or like you messed up and you know the person you really wanna be with is no longer interested.”

“Like, that sucks man… I feel like everybody’s at least experienced it one time in their life where it just sucks and there’s not really anything you can do about it, but you’re trying a whole bunch of things to try to cope with it,” he added.

While this is a track surrounding a heartbreak, Morgan revealed to us that it did not originate as a “sad boy country” song.

“The demo for that song, when we first wrote it… It sounded like a pop song, which I love pop music, but it’s not really my thing like for as an artist,” he said. “That kind of deterred me from this song for a long time because we wrote it, I guess almost a year ago or so, and I always was like, ‘Man, I love this song, but just the vibe is not for me to put out.’ After I, you know, centered around to some people I trusted… I’m like ‘Let’s just rework it, come at it different production-wise,’ and so we did that and thankfully, you know, the guys let me kind of have a lot of input on how that process goes, and they’re just so good at what they do too.”

John Morgan is “super proud of the production on this one” and he hopes that “everybody enjoys the track as much as he does.” And after listening to the brand new song nonstop for a week, we are POSITIVE that you are going to love it.

Since “Good With Goodbye” had an interesting creative process, we asked the Sylva, North Carolina native a bit more about what it typically looks like when he creates a new song.

“I feel like everybody’s process is a little different. Some people have a strong suit in, you know, their melodies or their lyrics or the music. I guess everybody kind of has one of those that they lean heavier towards” he revealed to us. “I’ve always kind of been more of a melody person. When I listen to songs, a lot of times I’ll listen to a new song and like half the time I forget what the lyric is, but I can sing the melody back to you.”

Starting in North Carolina and moving to the famous “Music City,” Morgan has had ALL of the resources needed to be a country superstar.

“Since I’ve moved to Nashville, I’ve really had had some good opportunities to learn from some veteran writers and be in the room with them and kinda watch their process and try to incorporate some of their ways of approaching how to write a song into my process… I’m very thankful that I had those opportunities, because it has changed kind of how I approach writing a song,” he said.

One of these “veteran writers” is none other than five time GRAMMY Award-winner Jason Aldean.

In fact, the rising country star is the very first signee on Jason Aldean’s Night Train label. Having written numerous songs for Aldean, including “Trouble With a Heartbreak” and “If I Didn’t Love You” featuring Carrie Underwood, the duo has a bond that is truly like no other.

When talking about writing for Aldean, Morgan revealed the story of how it all began. “I started making trips down [to Nashville], and long story short, I had an Uber driver one night when we were going to get food or something, and he was kind of talking to us and he was like, ‘Yeah, I’ve had some, you know, Jason Aldean songs back in the, you know, the early two thousands,’ and we were like ‘Yeah, that’s awesome,’ so he gave me his card, and I didn’t think anything of it,” he said.

Fast forward about eight months later, and John Morgan reconnected with this Uber driver while working his retail job at Lucky Brand and “writing with whoever would write with [him], and building demos and building tracks on [his] own” in his spare time. After sharing the demos with the Uber driver, he sent them to Jason Aldean’s bandmates, and the rest is history!

Beginning as one of Jason Aldean’s songwriters and transitioning to being signed by him was a VERY big deal, as well as a full circle moment for Morgan.

He revealed to us that Aldean “was kinda the first guy that was like ‘Man, you’re an artist. Like, you need to do this,’ so that was really cool to [him].”

“He’s helped me out on a lot of stuff that I didn’t really anticipate being a new guy in town… He kind of at least gave me a little bit of a heads up on like, what to expect on the rest of the music industry, which was cool,” Morgan added.

Jason Aldean has even decided to bring John Morgan on his Rock N’ Toll Cowboy tour, beginning TONIGHT (July 15th) in Scranton, Pennsylvania and ending October 29th in Wichita, Kansas.

“I’ve got the opportunity to go out on tour with Jason Aldean this year, so I’m stoked about that,” Morgan revealed. “We’re going out full band for the first time. Our tour dates start this weekend, so we’ve been in rehearsals and trying to get our show ready for y’all. Scranton, Pennsylvania is where we’re gonna kick this thing off, so if you’re in the area, come out, see us… It’s gonna be fun.”

You can catch Morgan perform “Good with Goodbye” live at one of the Rock N’ Toll Cowboy tour’s 34 stops, but until then, we will be streaming it on repeat! Listen below and let us know what you think of John Morgan AND his hot new track by either leaving a reaction at the bottom of the post or by sending us a tweet at @celebsecrets.
