It’s official: the GOAT will be back in 2022.
After initially making his retirement announcement on February 1, 2022, Tom Brady announced last night, March 13, that he will be putting the uniform back on for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season.
“These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands,” Brady wrote on Twitter. “That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I’m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa. Unfinished business.”

Initial skepticism regarding the validity of his retirement arose shortly after he made the initial announcement. Just a week later, there were already doubts that he would stay in retirement, with Brady saying “you never know” regarding the potential of his return. Now, those suspicions have been confirmed as the all-time great has made it official.
“I’m just gonna take things as they come,” Brady said on his Let’s Go! podcast back in February. “I think that’s the best way to put it and I don’t think anything, you know, you never say never. At the same time I know that I’m very, I feel very good about my decision. I don’t know how I’ll feel six months from now.”
Of course, we know how he felt just one month from then, let alone six, as he has made his decision to return. Six months from [now], being the time he was on the podcast, he will be prepping for summer football camps with the Bucs.
Now, the Buccaneers will have a true chance to win another Super Bowl with Brady, as they fell short last season to the eventual Super Bowl-champion Rams. With Brady’s return, the Bucs are an infinitely better team than they would have been without him. Alas, there will be a time when Brady truly retires and there is a Tom Brady-less NFL. But that time is not now.
