The fierce Braxton women are back and better than ever.
Merely three years after the end of the iconic and captivating series, Braxton Family Values, which aired for seven eventful seasons, Toni, Towanda, Trina, Tamar and Ms. Evelyn Braxton are making their highly-anticipated return to unscripted television with an all-new reality series The Braxtons, airing on We TV.
According to the network, The Braxtons follows the strong women reunite for the first time since the loss of their beloved sister, Traci, offering viewers a raw and unfiltered look at the family’s highs and lows across eight captivating episodes.
“You see us trying to move forward and pick up the pieces. You see us growing,” Trina tells Celeb Secrets host Juliet Schroder exclusively during a virtual interview. “We have now become women of age since we started in 2011, so it’s definitely been a journey.”
“Our sister Traci is definitely missed in this season,” Towanda adds. “She’s the reason that we have moved forward to do the new season of ‘The Braxtons’ and we’re definitely keeping her alive. We have never-before-seen photos and videos of her, and her son Kevin is part of the series as well.”
Throughout each episode, fans will see Toni, Towanda, Trina, Tamar and Ms. E navigate careers, health challenges and busy personal lives while growing their family bond.
For Trina, she starts therapy for PTSD, and tells Celeb Secrets that she didn’t know she “had feelings that were suppressed” because she “kept them under subjection.”
“I finally saw a grief counselor and I didn’t know that things would change… or implode the way they did, but they did. I did,” Trina reveals. “I had feelings that were suppressed that I didn’t even know were there, because I kept them under subjection.”
“I do want people to know that it’s okay to not be okay,” she continues. And you need to check on your well friends because the people who seem like they’re absolutely okay, you don’t know if they’re suffering on the inside. You never know what another person is going through.”
For Towanda, the 50-year-old comes into her own during her battle with alopecia.
“I just feel free,” she tells us. “I was always wearing wigs or weaves to hide behind the fact that I had [alopecia]. I would literally have my wig sewn on my head so that I could wake up with hair, but now, I feel so free. I don’t have to worry about my lace front, I don’t have to worry about adding hair, I don’t have to worry about any of that. I just go.”
When a family reunites, questions and unresolved issues are bound to be brought up. And while there will be drama displayed is each episode, Towanda tells Celeb Secrets that she’s “really proud” of Trina and Toni “for really opening up and being as vulnerable and transparent” as they were on The Braxtons.
“I’m really proud of my sisters [Trina] and [Toni] for really opening up and being as vulnerable and transparent as they have been in this series of talking about how they’re feeling. It’s a challenging thing to do to be as vulnerable as they’ve been with their grieving process, with their health issues, or whatever case that may have been with for them,” she shares.
“But I’m really proud of that because we’re going to be helping so many families. I really feel that every family has had a loss in one way or another and it’s going to resonate with them.
