Freeform has a new drama heading to your screen this spring and it’s so. darn. good.
The network unveiled details about its newest drama, Famous In Love with a special panel at the Disney/ABC Television Group event during the 2017 TCA Winter Press Tour held at the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, CA last month (January 10). The panel included a Q&A with executive producer I. Marlene King and series stars Bella Thorne, Carter Jenkins, Charlie DePew, Georgie Flores, Keith Powers, and Perrey Reeves.Â
Celeb Secrets spoke with DePew, Flores, Powers, and Reeves after the panel to get an inside look to the series before it premieres this spring. Did you know that the drama is executive produced by Pretty Little Liars‘ I. Marlene King and is an adaptation of a hit book series? Watch our interview below for all the details.
Based off the novel by Rebecca Serle, Famous In Love follows ordinary college student Paige (Thorne) as she gets her big break after auditioning for the starring role in a Hollywood blockbuster. She must now navigate her new star-studded life and the highs and lows that come with being the new It Girl in town, as well as balancing her college workload. As her public profile continues to rise and the undeniable chemistry with her new co-star and Hollywood heart-throb Rainer Devon (Jenkins) grows, the more her friendships are strained with her two best friends – particularly Jake (DePew) who may be more than just her friend.
Although the show is based on a teen novel, Freeform and executive producer I. Marlene King aged up the program for the network’s older demographic. “It is sexier, darker, and a little bit edgier,” said Perrey Reeves, who plays Nina Devon. Since Famous in Love comes from soon-to-be-departed Pretty Little Liars producer King, you better believe the show will be a new adaptation to the novel with a bit of mystery, too.
Make sure to have Famous in Love on your radar because not only does it show that Bella Thorne is, according to her cast, an exceptional actress, it is also “sexy, scandalous, and mysterious” with a taste of how Hollywood is behind-the-scenes. However, at the end of the day, the show is super relatable and all about friends and relationships. There are many underlying themes throughout each episode that you’ll have to look for, one being jealously.
Famous in Love premieres Tuesday, April 18th @ 9PM ET/PT after the season 7 premiere of Pretty Little Liars on Freeform.
