Yankees’ Stanton Out Four to Six Weeks With Hamstring Injury

New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. It’s a Grade 2 strain that is expected to keep him out four to six weeks.

Stanton suffered the injury during the Yankees’ 6-1 win over the Twins on Saturday (April 15), when he hit a ball he thought was a home run but was actually a two-run double off the left-center field wall. After decelerating into second base, Stanton signaled to the Yankees dugout and was replaced by a pinch runner due to a tweak he felt in his hamstring.

Seeing Stanton on the IL is a familiar sight for Yankees fans, as the 33-year-old has missed time each of the past four seasons. Last season, it was his Achilles and ankle inflammation that sidelined him for 37 games. The year before that, it was his quadriceps. Through the bevy of lower-body injuries, Stanton has only appeared in a full season for New York once and has been on the injured list seven times since the beginning of 2019.

A former National League MVP and Home Run Derby champ, Stanton is hitting .269/.296/.558 with four home runs and 11 RBIs this season. He came up with the Marlins and was immediately sought after for his hard-hit, long home runs that’s helped him get selected to five All-Star teams and win two Silver Sluggers. The Yankees signed him in 2018, and since then he’s hit .255 with 115 home runs and a 9.4 WAR.

The Yankees also called up infielder Oswald Peraza from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Stanton’s spot on the 40-man roster.
