With Thanksgiving only a few weeks away, Scotty McCreery sets the “Rose Bowl” mood with his new music video for “Southern Belle.” The cowboy teased fans last week with a video showing some fun tidbits from behind-the-scenes, which you can check out below.
In the music video, Scotty is shown singing his heart out while he’s surrounded by a sea of school spirit. Cheerleaders from various universities — including Belmont, Lipscomb and Vanderbilt — performed their cheer routines while the Vanderbilt University Spirit of Gold Marching Band drummed along to the catchy beat. Unlike many videos today, Scotty chose to cast cheerleaders in his music video not for them to be eye candy but for them to show off their athletic abilities.
He told Rolling Stone Country in a recent interview, “Obviously they’re pretty and everything, which is awesome, but it’s showcasing how strong they are. Anyone who doesn’t think cheerleading is a sport, I laugh. I played baseball my whole life and I couldn’t flip or twirl.”
The overall vibe of the video is kind of like Jonas Brothers’ “Pom Poms,” but with a fresh, country edge. “Southern Belle” is the lead single from Scotty’s third studio album, which is set to be released in 2016.
Check out the spirited music video below.
Along with the much-anticipated album, Scotty is set to release his first book Go Big Or Go Home: The Journey Toward The Dream on May 3, 2016. The book narrates the performer’s journey from an ordinary kid to an extraordinary country star. The book will be available to pre-order beginning November 15th and we can’t wait to read it!
