15 Movies That You Have to Watch During Pride Month

In celebration of LGBTQ Pride, here are 15 movies you have to watch this month!

This list certainly does not cover every notable queer film, but you will certainly find something that interests you. Whether you prefer a cheesy approach, a film that leaves you crying, or one that forces you to reflect on intimacy and partnerships – there’s something for everyone.

The issue of LGBTQ representation in entertainment has always plagued the industry and will continue to do so. The community has been limited by “repressive tolerance,” a term used to illustrate that new issues arise even as old milestones are met.

The presence of non-heteronormative genders and sexualities on-screen has certainly grown. However, stereotypical archetypes, legal discrimination, content portrayal, and casting choices are all issues that prevent effective representation. This lens is crucial in approaching any of the following films, but consider them as a small window into the queer world of cinema.

Exposure is so important, especially for young individuals. Seeing characters on screen is significant in coming to terms with your own expression. It is the industry’s duty to continue creating content about non-heteronormativity and validate the experiences of young individuals through this art form.
