The holiday season is officially here, and there’s no better way to get into the spirit of Christmas than with new flicks that center around the season’s core themes — romance, family and tradition.
These three ingredients are only some of the things you’ll get to experience while watching Imani Media Group’s A Holiday Chance. We caught up with a few of the cast members of the movie to learn more about the festive story that hits theaters today, November 24th.
Actor Johnell Young, who plays Troy in the film, says the compelling plot and incredible cast will make it all worthwhile to see because you’ll be able to sense the close-knit energy that the crew shared.
“I’m a family person, so when I had seen this project I’m like, ‘oh yeah, no doubt.’ It can never go wrong. Anything with family and love is always going to be successful.”
The film is about how a wealthy family is fighting to withhold and sustain the legacy that their company has in the media industry. Sharon Leal (Dreamgirls) and Nafessa Williams (Netflix’s Lightning) act as sisters who must come together to turn their family company around, with actor Richard Lawson, who plays the patriarch.
While sitting down with Celeb Secrets host Sydney Veda, Lawson says A Holiday Chance is the kind of imaging that Black families and families of color need to see on their small screens this season and beyond.
“I think it’s important to see because everything is about what you’re able to see. I mentor kids and my whole premise with them is to be able to see beyond their zip code.”
No matter your age, the cast says there is something for everyone in the movie. Williams, known for her role in Netflix’s Black Lightning, says her character Noel will probably be very relatable to viewers.
“[Noel] is just being very ambitious and wanting to be just like her father and carry this company,” she says, “She wanted to do it right!”
One of the most adorable aspects of the film that’s guaranteed to hook viewers in is the budding romance between Noel and Keith, who is played by Tobias Truvilion. When chatting with Celeb Secrets, Tobias said that he enjoyed playing the opposite of Nefessa, who he had known prior to filming.
“When we finally got a chance to be in a vehicle that we could work together, like a film, it just carried over,” he said, “It was just an organic, magnetic charge.”
