The Watermelon Woman (1996)

Cheryl Dunye writes, directs, and stars in The Watermelon Woman. It follows an autobiographical format, in which Dunye captures her research on the history of racism and queerness in film.
After working in a video store, she learns that many black women were historically not credited in movies. In her piece, she aims to investigate intersectionality in film and its lack of representation.
