What are the Critics Choice Awards?

The Critics Choice Awards is an annual event hosted by the Critics Choice Association. The prestigious organization honors and recognizes the finest in cinematic pictures and television in the United States and Canada.

How (and where) can I watch the Critics Choice Awards?

The award show will be LIVE on The CW on Sunday, March 7 from 7 to 10 PM ET/PT. For those without cable, can live stream the event on FuboTV, which is currently offering a free trial.

The night to remember will look quite different this year as the organization is taking proper precautions to keep everyone safe from COVID-19. Therefore, the show will be an in-person/virtual hybrid with host Taye Diggs and numerous of the presenters will be broadcasted live on stage in Los Angeles while the nominees will be attending the award show remotely from various locations around the world.

Who is hosting?

For the third consecutive year, Taye Diggs — who is best known for his work in drama-series All American and the musical Rent — will be hosting the star-studded evening.

Who are the big nominees?

Leading the way with 12 nominations is Netflix’s film Mank, which is in the running for Best Picture, Best Actor for Gary Oldman, Best Supporting Actress for Amanda Seyfried, and Best Director for David Fincher, among several others. Coming in a close second with 10 nominations in the pipeline is A24’s Minari, which is listed under Best Picture, Best Actor for Steven Yeun, and Best Supporting Actress for Yuh-Jung Youn.

While many are predicting Netflix to sweep the award show, streaming platforms HBO and HULU also have several popular hits like the comedic thriller series The Flight Attendant and Ramy on their long list – which makes a stiff competition.

But that’s not all, our queen Zendaya and Golden Globe winner Andra Day are also up for best actress for their roles in Malcolm & Marie and The United States vs. Billie Holiday. Also, expect to see binge-worthy shows like The CrownOzarkSchitt’s Creek, and Better Call Saul competing against each other in several categories.

You can view the full list of film nominees here and series nominees here with our winner predictions here.

Is there a red carpet?

As of right now, a red carpet is not in the works for this year’s award show. We feel that the Critics Choice Awards will follow the same format as the Golden Globes last Sunday, with nominees posing in their chic looks from their own homes while presenters and other show participants posing in front of a traditional step and repeat in Los Angeles.

Who is presenting?

Several presenters will be joining Taye Diggs live and in-person from Los Angeles. The Critics Choice Association confirmed that the 2021 presenters will be: Kevin Bacon, Angela Bassett, Mayim Bialik, Orlando Bloom, Phoebe Dynevor, Morgan Freeman, Gal Gadot, Jim Gaffigan, Tony Hale, Chelsea Handler, Justin Hartley, Chris Hemsworth, Tyler Hoechlin, Jameela Jamil, Leslie Jordan, Javicia Leslie, Eva Longoria, Chrissy Metz, Mads Mikkelsen, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jared Padalecki, Ashley Park, Kyra Sedgwick, Yara Shahidi, Elizabeth Tulloch, Courtney B. Vance, John David Washington, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Who will be receiving the #SeeHer Award?

This year, Zendaya will receive the fifth annual #SeeHer Award at the 26th annual Critics Choice Awards. The wonderful honor will be presented by her co-star John David Washington from Malcolm & Marie during the live ceremony.

“We are delighted to be presenting the award to Zendaya, who is such a strong representation of what it means to be a woman in 2021,” says the Critics Choice Association. “ One of the busiest rising stars in Hollywood – with a generation of Disney Channel fans, Marvel devotees, and ‘Euphoria’ evangelists – she is a role model and leading voice of her generation. From being the youngest actress to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series to using her platform t advocate for Black women in Hollywood, she is showcasing to the next generation that you are never too young to use your voice to make a difference. Inspiring girls everywhere to see themselves in their full potential, Zendaya represents everything SeeHer is.”

The #SeeHer award “recognizes a woman who embodies the values set forth by the SeeHer movement, to push boundaries, defy stereotypes and acknowledge the importance of authentic portrayals of women across the entertainment landscape.”

#SeeHer is a global movement fighting for accurate representation for women and girls in media. This chilling movement is led by the Association of National Advertisers. Previous award recipients are Kristen Bell, Viola Davis, Claire Foy, and Gal Gadot.

Just in case you forgot, make sure to tune in to The 26th Annual Critics Choice Awards TONIGHT, March 7th @7 PM ET/PT on The CW.
