The San Francisco 49ers have made a massive splash by trading for former Stanford Cardinals running back Christian McCaffrey amid a down year in consistent running compared to most seasons of Kyle Shanahan’s tenure. The acquisition of McCaffrey indeed strengthens not just the running department for the Niners but also improves the team as a whole.

The running game has suffered some blows dating back to the offseason as the team lost former offensive coordinator and running game coordinator Mike McDaniel as he headed to Miami to become the head coach of the Dolphins. The team also lost starting running back Elijah Mitchell to injury in their week one 19-10 loss to the Bears.
As we reported here on Celeb Secrets, the 49ers were one of the teams heavily linked to McCaffrey throughout recent days after rumors of a possible trade revolving around McCaffrey began to circulate. It will be fascinating to see a talent like McCaffrey be integrated into Coach Shanahan’s system, as San Francisco has been known for their stellar run game through Shanahan’s tenure with the team.

The 49ers are coming off a disappointing 28-14 loss to the Falcons and have a tough matchup this coming Sunday as they host Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. It will be interesting to see if McCaffrey plays at all due to such short notice, but if anyone can pull this off, it could be McCaffrey, not just due to his play on the field but mainly due to his IQ.
San Francisco currently sits at 3-3 on the year in a very tight division as they, the Rams, the Cardinals, and the Seahawks each have three wins so far on the season. So, therefore, a move like this can truly move San Francisco ahead of the rest of their division and place them as one of the “top dogs” in the NFC.
Something of note is that McCaffrey is not just a terrific runner but also a dynamic receiver, as he has been known throughout the years for being the most versatile back in the league since he was drafted in 2017.
As for Carolina, the rebuild has truly begun, as McCaffrey has been the face of the Panthers franchise ever since the team drafted him with the number eight pick in the 2017 draft. Both McCaffrey and the Panthers took to social media to show their appreciation for one another.
