Lady Gaga and Glenn Close Tie For “Best Actress” – 2019
The 2019 Critics Choice Awards was a night full of several shocking events. However, the most surprising of them all was the tie between Lady Gaga for her performance in A Star Is Born and Glen Close for her unforgettable role in The Wife for “Best Actress.” At the time, the 71-year-old thespian expressed her excitement about sharing the honor and title with a woman as influential as Gaga. “I was thinking that you know, the world kind of pits us against each other in this profession and I know that from all the women in this category, and I think I can speak for all the women in this room, we celebrate each other.”
Next up, the “Shallow” vocalist took control of the mic to share her emotional speech honoring the ones who turned her into the actress she is today. “Bradley, you are a magical filmmaker,” says Gaga about director and co-star Bradley Cooper. “And you are just as magical of a human being.”
The emotional tribute did not just move the ones at the ceremony, but her passionate speech pulled some heartstring for everyone watching at home as well.
