Celeb Secrets: For people who may not know you yet, can you explain your writing style and a little bit about who you are as an author?

AJ Jordan: “I feel like I see myself differently every day, but I believe AJ Jordan is a creative writer with a passion for art in all of its forms. I focus my writing on world-building and creating truly alive worlds.”

CS: What made you want to start writing initially?

AJ: “When I was in 3rd grade, a friend and I attempted to write a book. We eventually finished it, but it was not very good and was done on old lined paper, but that was what lit the fuse that would later become my love of writing.”

CS: I understand that you are dual enrolled in both high school and college with an emphasis on creative writing. How do you balance your education with working towards becoming a big name author?

AJ: “I won’t pretend like I have that all figured out. Fortunately, I excel in both English and history, so I finish those as early as possible, and then I move on to my other classes while I write in my off time.”

CS: Your novel Eerily Wrinkling and the Prodigal Return is out now! Can you give us a little synopsis?

AJ: “It follows Alan Ritson’s return to his hometown of Wrinkling City where his parents have gone missing. Returning means opening old wounds, fighting forgotten foes and taking unexpected risks, all while untangling the ever growing web of lies and deceit he finds himself in.”

CS: Can you talk a little bit about the overall inspiration behind the novel?

AJ: “Many forms of literature have inspired me, but this book wasn’t written with any set inspiration. Bits and pieces of other ideas were mixed together to create Wrinkling City, the main setting for this book. Coincidentally, what inspired me was bronze-age superhero comics, and many do not consider them to be literature.”

CS: What is your favorite aspect of the novel and why?

AJ: “I love every part of the novel with all my heart. But, if I am being honest, I have a soft spot for Danniel Bianchi and his inconsequential antics.”

CS: What does your typical writing process look like? Are there any quirks to your method?

AJ: “My writing method has changed over the last few years since Eerily Wrinkling was written. I prefer to write it with the ending in mind, but letting the characters make their own paths towards the ending without being on a strict outline of what’s going to happen.”

CS: In general, who or what are some of your inspirations when writing a new story?

AJ: “It really depends on the story I want to tell. Usually I write based on dreams I had or things I see. Other times I find myself reading, seeing or hearing something that I want to expand upon. These are usually short stories that I find to be good practice and a good way to spend a day.”

CS: Who is your favorite author, and what kinds of novels do you enjoy reading?

AJ: “Easily The Legends of Drizzt by R.A Salvator. I love the world-building, the moral dilemmas and how the characters evolve. It also helped me through a harder time in life, so it holds a lot of importance to me.”

CS: What kind of impact do you want your writing to make on the world?

AJ: “I want to show people that teenagers can write, and not just that, but write a really good book. I hope everyone else enjoys [Eerily Wrinkling and the Prodigal Return] as much as I did writing it.”

CS: Do you have anything you are really excited about coming up in 2023?

AJ: “Definitely the book’s release, along with my senior year of high school.”

CS: Lastly, since we are Celeb Secrets, do you have any secrets about either yourself that fans might not know?

AJ: “I am a huge music fan, with my favorite songs being “Something Just Like This” by The Chainsmokers and Coldplay and “I Love Rock ‘N Roll” by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts.”
