Alex Cooper Sits Down with Chelsea Handler for First Exclusive Spotify “Call Her Daddy” Episode Since $60M Deal

The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here — new episodes of Alex Cooper‘s wildly popular podcast Call Her Daddy is officially on Spotify!

After landing the $60M exclusive deal with the streaming platform back in June, the Pennsylvania native has been hard at work to make sure that each episode continues to have people buzzing about her candid conversations while breaking the Internet upon release.

In an interview with Variety, Cooper couldn’t be more thankful for this amazing opportunity.

“I’m incredibly thankful for everyone who has supported, helped and been a part of ‘Call Her Daddy.” From its start three years ago, the show has always been about challenging the status quo and manifesting conversations that previously only happened behind closed doors.”

The 26-year-old host posted the exciting announcement to the Call Her Daddy Instagram with the caption, “NEW SEASON. NEW HOME. NEW EPISODE. SEE U F****** AT MIDNIGHT @spotify.”

Spotify also shared the exciting news on their Twitter, with a GIF of Cooper and the caption, “Relationship Status: Exclusive Winking face.”

For her Spotify debut earlier this week, Cooper had special guest Chelsea Handler on the show to discuss how Cooper saw her at one of her live shows, therapy, and career ups and downs.

During the episode, Cooper recalls the first time she saw Handler at her “Life Will Be The Death Of Me” tour. “I remember leaving that day and saying to my parents, ‘Damn, I hope I can meet her one day,’ and now two years later, we are sitting in my back house in California, on my couch, together.”

Cooper went in deep asking if Handler has ever been in a “creative rut.” Handler answered, “I guess the thing to remember is A, everything is always moving. So you get creative growths and bursts. I’ve spent multiple days watching television during COVID, when I could’ve been doing something creative. I felt humorless for so long. Creatively, I don’t beat myself up.”

Cooper followed up and asked if she had a “flop” moment. Handler quickly remembered a moment and said “Yes, at the Montreal Comedy Festival.”

“I was supposed to be the hot ticket of the festival. I had a room, a set, late that night. It was filled with industry. A hundred agents, TV execs [executives], studio execs, and I bummed. And it was devastating,” the comedian shared. But the the story has a happy ending. Handler shares that 72 hours after her failed performance, she had an outstanding performance at a different venue, and was approached by two executives, and got ‘the biggest opportunity’ of her life. Cooper replied and said, “That’s inspiring.”

Launched in 2018 with backing from Barstool, Call Her Daddy began with Cooper and former roommate Sofia Franklyn sharing candid conversations about two women navigating life in their 20s. After the podcast’s wild success, Cooper and Franklyn found themselves in a feud over negotiations for the future of the show, and Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy offered $500,000, bonuses, and six months off their initial contact.

Franklyn wanted to explore other opportunities for the podcast, and blamed Cooper for negotiating with Portnoy behind her back. After a lot of back and forth, Frankly ultimately felt betrayed, and left the podcast to start her own show, Sofia With An F.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she reflected on the drama saying, “It was a weird feeling to have my career explode and get bigger, but also on a personal note, losing a relationship with someone. There [were] a lot of different emotions going on, but by this point now in my life, I’ve gone through a lot of self-realization and just really going through the steps of almost, like, grieving. It sounds weird, but that’s kind of what it is, you know?”
