Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones have been cast in an upcoming FX limited series titled Under the Banner of Heaven.
As reported by Variety, the series is adapted from a non-fiction book of the same name by author Jon Krakauer. The story follows a devout detective who finds himself questioning his faith as he investigates a murder that is related to a famous family in Utah. This family becomes involved with LDS (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) fundamentalism and grows to distrust the government.
Garfield will play a committed LDS elder named Pyre who grows to doubt the Church’s teachings because of his connection to a suspected murderer. Edgar-Jones will play a young Mormon named Brenda who falls victim to a brutal murder. Dustin Lance Black will serve as creator and executive producer. Lance Black is known for his work on Milk and When We Rise. David Mackenzie will direct.
Gina Balian, the president of original programming at FX, talked about how excited the company is for the upcoming series. She said, “Dustin Lance Black is a gifted storyteller and the perfect artist to adapt Jon Krakauer’s gripping novel for FX.” She continues, “We are thrilled that David Mackenzie has come aboard as a director and to have Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones star in Under the Banner of Heaven.”
Edgar-Jones is most famous for her role in Hulu’s Normal People. She recently wrapped production on an upcoming movie called Fresh, which also stars Sebastian Stan. She is currently filming Where the Crawdads Sing.
