Brewers Pick Up Former Marlins Third Baseman/Outfielder Brian Anderson

The MLB free agency period has been pretty silent for the last couple of days, but the Milwaukee Brewers made a low-risk/high-reward move on Tuesday as the Brew Crew signed long-time Marlins third baseman/outfielder Brian Anderson.

According to Craig Mish of the Miami Herald, Anderson’s deal is for one season and is worth $3.5 million, with $2 million in incentives.

Anderson’s career has been filled with many ups and downs as the 29-year-old veteran has produced some quality numbers in the batter’s box and has shown his versatility on the defensive side by making highlight-worthy plays both in the infield and the outfield. The big problem in Anderson’s career has been his inability to stay consistently healthy.

Throughout his time with Miami, Anderson would have these moments where many fans felt like he could be a guy you build around, but after seven years of injuries on and off, it was time for the Marlins to part ways with their long-time player.

Anderson is a career .256 hitter with 57 home runs and 233 RBIs; Anderson’s best season came in 2018 when the second-year pro had a .273 batting average with 65 RBIs and 11 home runs. The 2018 season was an all-star caliber season for “Andy,” what made it even more impressive at the time was that it was his first full season in the MLB; therefore, Marlins fans were ecstatic and genuinely felt like the organization finally found their star player.

Anderson will allegedly be playing third base for the Brewers; throughout his time with the Fish, with him being in and out so long, he was never fully able to secure any position and thus would be moved around between third base and right field. He is a terrific defender and will be ready regardless of the position.

All in all, this move can help elevate Milwaukee a notch above where they currently sit, or it will just be a one-year deal that didn’t work out. The main factor in this whole situation will be Anderson’s health.
