Cam Anthony Reflects on Winning “The Voice” Season 20 (Exclusive)

The Voice crowned its winner for season 20 on Tuesday night (May 25) and to no surprise, it was Team Blake Shelton’s Cam Anthony.

“This has been outrageous and it’s definitely a lot to take in,” Anthony shares with Celeb Secrets. “[In that moment], I was reflecting on this experience. There were amazing people I was able to meet, and I feel grateful this experience has brought them into my life.”

“I would also say I was reflecting over the time I’ve been working in the industry. It’s been a long time and I’ve been working on this dream for a good time. My family sacrificed so much, and they’ve just been there with me through the process, so I just wanted to make sure this was that. It meant the world to me.”

The 19-year-old from Philadelphia has been performing for a long time. He appeared on Ellen back in 2014 and soon was singing at the White House for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. After some hard years trying to make it in the business, The Voice was his chance to shine, and he blew everyone away with his blind audition singing Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down.”

He got Nick Jonas, John Legend and Blake Shelton to all turn around for him, and though she did not turn her chair, Kelly Clarkson became an instant fan. Because Jonas blocked Legend from taking him, Anthony ended up choosing Shelton as his coach. This gave Shelton his eighth win on the show – more than any other coach.

“It was just this unspoken vibe that Blake had,” Anthony says regarding why he chose Blake as his coach. “He is very down to earth and very chill. He just creates this neutral environment for you to just be yourself and enjoy the moment. I think that’s the one thing I needed. I needed something like that because over the amount of time I’ve had in the industry, I haven’t had that opportunity. I think working with Blake made it that much more validated.”
