Carolina Panthers Hire Former Colts Head Coach Frank Reich As Franchise’s Next Head Man

The first domino fell in the NFL head coaching frenzy as the Carolina Panthers hired Frank Reich.

Reich was most recently the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and was the Panthers first-ever quarterback.

The Reich hire may be a steal as he was the scapegoat for the many failures of the Colts this season and will now be going into a much better situation as the Panthers have a better defense. Thus, Reich will mostly have to focus on improving their offense which works well since it’s his specialty.

To talk about the Panthers offense, the team currently has some talented weapons such as wide receiver D.J. Moore, tight ends Ian Thomas and Tommy Tremble, and a nice pair of running backs in D’Onta Foreman and Chuba Hubbard. Something of note, Foreman is set to be a free agent once this season is completed, but many expect Carolina to bring him back.

With that said, the Panthers will once again be in the quarterback market as it has been a struggle to find consistency out of the position within the past couple of seasons as many signal-callers have started games for Carolina, such as Teddy Bridgewater, Baker Mayfield, P.J. Walker, and Sam Darnold.

The Panthers front office will most likely want to get Reich’s input into what type of quarterback he prefers to have, but at the end of the day, Reich’s job is to coach and not to select which players should be on the roster.

This quarterback situation seems too familiar for Reich as one of the top issues throughout his time in Indy was their inability to find a consistent player at the QB position. Reich had a different starting quarterback for each week one matchup of his Colts coaching career; the starters were Andrew Luck, Jacoby Brissett, Phillip Rivers, Carson Wentz, and Matt Ryan.

The hope here is that the Panthers try to help Reich out and not blame him if there are failures in finding the right starting quarterback.

All in all, Panthers fans should be excited to have one of their own returning home, as Reich was the first-ever starting quarterback in Panthers history and is a brilliant offensive mind which is was the Panthers heavily need at the moment.
