Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need to Know About the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards

Some of the world’s biggest stars will be taking home a popcorn bucket award home this Sunday, as the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards and MTV Movie & TV Awards: UNSCRIPTED are officially back for one epic night. 

Both MTV Movie & TV Awards and MTV Movie & TV Awards: UNSCRIPTED are fan-voted and will be taking place LIVE from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, CA. Superstar Vanessa Hudgens will be hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards, while Bachelorette alum Tayshia Adams is set to follow by emceeing the UNSCRIPTED award show. Additionally, stars like Bethenny Frankel, Jack Black and Jennifer Lopez will receive special honors, with artists like Diplo, Swae Lee and DJ Snoopadelic taking over the microphones for some unforgettable music moments.

It wouldn’t be a move and TV show without some sneak peeks at the most highly-anticipated programs this year. During the red carpet, fans will get a special tease from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and an exclusive clip from Where the Crawdads SingDuring the live show, viewers can expect new exclusive clips from Thor: Love and Thunder and The Umbrella Academy.

What are the MTV Movie & TV Awards and MTV Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted? 

The MTV Movie & TV Awards are a fan-voted award show that honors actors, movies, and television series from within the year. MTV Movie & TV Awards: UNSCRIPTED on the other hand honors our favorite reality shows and stars! The nominees are released by MTV and fans are able to place their vote on who they feel deserves to take home the iconic golden popcorn award.

Who Is Hosting?

Vanessa Hudgens is back and better than ever! The tick tick…BOOM! actress was asked to host the award show after her spectacular hosting abilities for MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest of All Time. With both the regular award show and the UNSCRIPTED in one night, MTV decided to switch it up with a different host for the UNSCRIPTED award show. Former Bachelorette, Tayshia Adams, will be hosting the UNSCRIPTED awards. 

Who Will Be Performing?

Snoop Dogg aka DJ Snoopaddelic will DJ the MTV Movie & TV Awards and MTV Movie & TV Awards: UNSCRIPTEDMTV also recently announced a performance from Diplo and Swae Lee will debut their song, “Tupelo Shuffle,” which is on the upcoming Elvis film soundtrack

Who is presenting?

For the MTV Movie & TV Awards, presenters include: Awkwafina, Billy Eichner, Chris Evans, Glen Powell, Lana Condor, Jamie Campbell Bower, Jenna Ortega, Joe Keery, Joseph Quinn, Pablo Schrieber, Rebel Wilson, Riley Keough, Sarah Shani, and Sydney Sweeney. The stars will continue to show with the MTV Movie & TV Awards: UNSCRIPTED, as presenters for the UNSCRIPTED show include Chrishell Stause, Erika Jayne, Kristin Cavallari, Nicole Richie, Kyle Richards, Lisa Rinna, Nick Viall, Ariana Madix, Teresa Giudice, Crystal Kung Minkoff, James Kennedy, Garcelle Beauvais, and more.

Who are the big nominees?

It’s no surprise that Spider-Man: No Way Home is the top nominee of the night! The movie that crushed the box offices’ leads with a total of 7 nominations! Now, following close behind with 6 nominations is none other than the phenomenon tv show, EuphoriaThe smash-hit garnered audiences’ attention every Sunday with its second season. For the UNSCRIPTED awards, the amazing show that is Ru Paul’s Drag Race leads with 4 nominations. Will there be any special honorees this year?

Yes! Reality star Bethenny Frankel from The Real Housewives of New York will be given the “Reality Royalty Lifetime Achievement Award.” Iconic actor and comedian, Jack Black, is also set to receive a special award with the “Comedic Genius Award” at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards. Legendary actress and singer Jennifer Lopez will also be honored at the award show with the “Generation Award.”

How about a red carpet?

Of course! Red carpets are alive and well these days, and host Josh Horowitz will be chatting with all your favorite celebrities as they show off their best outfits before going inside. Additionally, viewers will get to experience a red carpet special tease from Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds& Snakes by Tom Blyth and an exclusive clip from Where the Crawdads Sing by Taylor John Smith.

What else can I expect from the show?
