The Chicago Cubs have had a solid offseason as the team has signed two young stars in former Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson and former Dodgers centerfielder/first basemen Cody Bellinger. Swanson’s deal is for seven years and is worth $177 million, while Bellinger’s is a one-year deal worth $17.5 million.
Swanson joins the Cubs after spending seven seasons in a Braves uniform in which he won a World Series ring in 2021 and was named an All-Star and Gold Glove Award Winner last season. Swanson hit 25 home runs, brought in 96 RBIs, and had a batting average of .277 in his first All-Star season in 2022.

It comes as a surprise to some that Swanson and the Braves agreed to part ways. Still, a significant factor in why Swanson chose to move to Chicago and join the Cubbies is because his late grandfather was a lifelong Cubs fan, so it just felt right for him to head to Wrigley and join his grandfather’s beloved baseball team.
As for Bellinger, the 27-year-old hybrid defender is coming off back-to-back struggling seasons at the plate, as his batting average in 2022 was an abysmal .210 and an even worse .165 in 2021. With that said, Bellinger has shown more good than bad throughout his six-year career in a Dodgers uniform and is hoping his seventh season will be a great one with a new organization.

Bellinger blasted onto the MLB scene back in 2017 when he was named an All-Star and the National League Rookie of the Year; Bellinger would appear in the fall classic again in 2019, which was his best season to date as he was named the NL MVP along with earning his first career Gold Glove Award and Silver Slugger Award.
As for Chicago, these are two moves that can very much take their team to another level, and with flashes of greatness along with each of these guys winning a World Series title already in their young careers, the present is very bright for the Chicago Cubs as they look to climb back into the postseason after some struggling seasons in the Windy City.
