Country Singer Abbey Cone Reveals She Is in Her ‘Do What I Want Era,’ and We Are Absolutely Living for It (Exclusive)

Moving from Argyle, Texas to Nashville, Tennessee at the ripe age of 16 years old, Abbey Cone has always had music on her mind.

“I moved to Nashville when I was 16, and I’ve been like hyper focused on a career my whole entire life, like since I was nine. I wanted a record deal when I was nine. Not like literally when I was nine, but I was thinking about it since then,” Cone shared in an exclusive interview with Celeb Secrets.

The rising star is finally starting to hit her stride within the country music space, releasing her newest single “If You Were A Song” on all music streaming platforms earlier this year, as well as working on tons of new tunes. In addition to this, Cone is making proving herself to be quite the performer as well, taking the stage at two of country music’s biggest festivals in 2023: Stagecoach and CMA Fest.

Ahead of her performance at Stagecoach 2023, Celeb Secrets host Juliet Schroder got the opportunity to speak with Abbey backstage, where they discussed who she really is as an artist as well as what exciting things she has in the works.

The budding songstress is truly a lone ranger when it comes to her role in the country music space, serving as an independent artist who releases whatever she wants, whenever she wants.

“I am an independent artist right now, so I’m in my ‘independent era,’ which is very exciting for me,” Cone spilled. “I signed a record deal like a month before the pandemic started in 2020, which was not like the best timing in the world, and put out an EP that I’m super proud of, but just had to like, make the right decision for me, which was to move on from that and to be able to truly do what I want.”

She elaborated on this statement, proceeding to reveal, “I’m in my ‘do what I want era,’ which really for me just means like putting out music consistently, so I just dropped a song on April 14th called ‘If You Were A Song’ that I love so much. It’s doing really well, and then I have another song coming out probably in the next like 30 days or so. Yeah, so I’m just out here doing what I want.”

“I think the beautiful thing about being able to put music out when I want is that I can kind of gauge the response from it, so I think for the next few months it’s singles. Honestly, maybe for the year it would be singles or like maybe like two at a time, and then I would love to put an album out next year. That’s my current soft plan,” she teased to us.

When asked for a little taste as to what she has on the way, Cone revealed to Celeb Secrets, “I feel like everything that I’m currently writing that isn’t out yet is kind of telling the journey that I’ve been on the last couple of years. The songs that I’m releasing right now, well actually the song I’m about to release next month, is like a very telling song about kind of my experience over the last few years.”

“I feel like sonically with the song I just put out, ‘If You Were A Song,’ I feel like it’s not like a massive departure from the EP that I have out. I think if you had listened to my EP that and then listened to ‘If You Were A Song,’ it would just feel like evolution. It doesn’t feel like massively different. It just feels like I’ve grown, in my opinion,” she continued, honestly.

If her new music is anything like “If You Were A Song,” we already know it will be nothing short of spectacular.

Aside from her new tunes, Abbey Cone has some VERY exciting live performances on the way that we will definitely be buying a ticket to go see, with one of the most notable being CMA Fest next month.

Backstage at Stagecoach, the rising country artist shared with us, “the only other festival I’m doing this year is CMA Fest in Nashville, which is exciting. I’ve played like small things at CMA Fest before, but I’m playing my like first official stage… That’s the only other festival I’m doing this year, and then I’ll probably hit festivals hard next year.”

She continued with a few more details about her upcoming set, ultimately revealing, “I’ve done like acoustic stuff like inside Music City Center and stuff like that, but I’m playing on the Maui Gym stage this year, which I think is right outside Bridgestone Arena. Full band show. I’ve actually never played a full band set at CMA Fest before, so I’m really stoked.”
