Miami Dolphins fans are rejoicing as Quarterbacks Coach/Passing Game Coordinator Darrell Bevell has decided to stay with the franchise.
Bevell has been credited highly with the development of Tua Tagovailoa and the rest of the Miami Dolphins offense this past season, and after being offered Offensive Coordinator interviews with the New York Jets and the Washington Commanders, the 53-year-old will find himself in the 305 for another season.
It’s always tough to lose such an essential part of your core after a successful season, and this week, many fans feared a potential loss of Bevell due to these teams trying to lure him away. With that said, Bevell felt it was in his best interest to stay with Mike McDaniel and co-in Miami after an awe-inspiring first year for the regime.
Under Bevell and McDaniel’s guidance, Tagovailoa had the best season of his career so far as the three-year pro finished with 3,548 yards, 25 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a 105.5 passer rating which led all QBs in the league; to make it even more impressive, Tagovailoa played in twelve and a half games out of seventeen games in a season. So, imagine how much Tagovailoa would have produced if he had been able to play in each game.
Bevell’s decision also adds to the greatness that Mike McDaniel and General Manager Chris Grier are creating in Miami Gardens, as many are calling this season’s Dolphins team the best since Don Shula and Dan Marino were part of the squad. This goes especially for the offense as the Dolphins offense had not produced these numbers since back when Marino was slinging the ball to two of the all-time greats in Mark Duper and Mark Clayton, a.k.a “The Mark Brothers.”
The equivalent of Duper and Clayton today are Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle; the Dolphins deadly duo finished with the third most receiving yards by a pair of wide receivers in a single season in NFL history.
With all that said, Bevell was an essential component of the success on the field of the Dolphins offense, and him staying in town will ensure that the performance of this group in year two will only get better.
