Demi Lovato’s Feud With A Frozen Yogurt Shop Finally Comes To An End

Demi Lovato and a LA frozen yogurt shop were in the middle of a feud this past weekend and it seems like it’s finally come to an end.

It all started on Sunday, April 18 – when Lovato went to The Bigg Chill and claimed that some of their sugar-free products were very “triggering” for people like her, who are in a constant battle with their eating disorder.

“Finding it extremely hard to order froyo from @thebiggchillofficial when you have to walk past tons of sugar free cookies/other diet foods before you get to the counter,” she wrote on her Instagram story. Adding “Do better please” with the hashtag “#dietculturevultures.”

The Bigg Chill responded to Lovato’s complaint on their own Instagram story and explained that the reason why they stock sugar-free products is to cater to their customers that have dietary needs, “We carry items for Diabetics, Celiac disease, Vegan and of course have many indulgent items as well.”

Lovato didn’t seem to like the business’ explanation and went on to share their private DM exchange on her Instagram story.

The Bigg Chill wrote, “We cater to all of our customers’ needs for the past 36 years. We are sorry you found this offensive,” to which Lovato replied with “The whole experience was triggering and awful. You can carry things for other people while also caring for another percentage of your customers who struggle DAILY just to even step foot in your store.”

The pop singer then began to receive backlash for calling out the frozen yogurt shop, with people stating that Lovato wasn’t being considerate towards other people with dietary needs. She, of course, wasn’t going to let herself be told how to feel and went on to share one of The Bigg Chill’s Instagram posts that advertised “guilt-free” protein cookies.

“This screams diet culture and I won’t be gaslit by the media or anyone else that says otherwise,” she stated. “I don’t need to feel guilt-free about eating anything. This was what I was talking about and this is directly from their own page.”

TMZ also shared some leaked DMs between Lovato and The Bigg Chill where the shop stated that they no longer carried those cookies in their store and haven’t since 2016, 28-year-old retaliated with “You don’t want to mess w me” and even pulled the “customer is always right” card.

By Monday night though, It looks like Lovato finally took a step back and looked at the situation with a clear mind.

The pop star posted an 8-minute long video on her Instagram account, apologizing for the situation and claiming that her intentions about the whole thing were completely misconstrued. She shared that she tends to “get really passionate” and had approached the froyo shop “from a place of love.”

“When I messaged this froyo place, originally I wanted to make a point, and I wanted to call out behaviors or branding things that didn’t sit right with me,” she explained in the video. “As someone who deals with an eating disorder and is in recovery from an eating disorder, I still to this day have a hard time walking into a froyo shop, ordering yogurt and being content with it and keeping it down.”

Lovato also added that she didn’t know that the sugar-free options were for health reasons as it “wasn’t clear” but that she’s more than happy to partner up with the business to try and come up with better messaging for their products.

The “Dancing with the Devil” singer ended the video by stating that she felt good about speaking up about something that didn’t sit right with her, but not about how her words have been misinterpreted.

“I walked into a situation that didn’t sit right with me, my intuition said speak up about this, so I did. And I feel good about that. What I don’t feel good about is some of the way it’s been interpreted and how the message has gotten misconstrued,” Lovato concluded.

Looks like this feud has been laid to rest (or at least we hope so)!
