Eagles Lose Two Key Defensive Pieces As Defensive Tackle Javon Hargrave Signs with the 49ers & Middle Linebacker T.J. Edwards Joins the Bears

The defending NFC Champions have suffered multiple vital losses on the first day of NFL free agency as the Eagles have lost superstar defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and consistent middle linebacker T.J. Edwards. Hargrave and Edwards were both substantial difference makers for Philly last season, so replacing the value they brought will take much work.

Hargrave joined an already elite 49ers defense on a 4-year $84 million deal, while Edwards is heading to the windy city to join the Bears and team up with former Bills stud linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who also joined the Bears on day one of free agency. Edwards’ deal is worth $19.5 million and is for three years.

For Hargave, this move to join the Niners gives him a chance to join another elite defense after being part of a historic Eagles defensive unit last season. Hargrave will be lined up alongside a San Fran defensive line that contains multiple all-pros in Nick Bosa and Arik Armstead.

As for the Niners, this is a big move to solidify their defense even more and benefit new defensive coordinator Steve Wilks; Wilks was recently hired after DeMeco Ryans departed from the Bay Area to head to H-Town to become the head man of the Texans.

As for Edwards, this move allows him to help lead another defensive in the middle of the field and become a leader on an up-and-coming Bears defense. Edwards is coming off the best season of his career, so he will look to rise to another level in Chicago.

As for the Bears, it was a great day for the team by adding Edwards and Edmunds from the Bills to help improve their linebacking core. A duo of Edwards and Edmunds can be extraordinary for years to come and perhaps bring back some memories with flashes of Bears legends such as Lance Briggs and Brian Urlacher.

As for the Eagles, these two men will be hard to replace, and with a brand new defensive coordinator in Sean Desai, the organization has put their young assistant coach in a bad spot with the loss of these two tremendous talents.

All in all, these two ballers will look to continue to get better and contribute to their new teams; while the Eagles will look to bring in some new players somehow to help them stay with a winning culture.
