In an exclusive interview with Vogue, English singer/songwriter, Ellie Goulding announced that she was 30 weeks into pregnancy and is expecting her first child with her husband, Caspar Jopling!
The “Love Me Like You Do” singer revealed that the pregnancy came unexpected for the couple. In a romantic twist of fate, they discovered they were pregnant during a getaway trip for their one-year anniversary!
“It was crazy because it was our one-year anniversary,” Goulding told Vogue, “That was not the plan. The thought of getting pregnant didn’t seem like it could be a reality. Becoming pregnant kind of made me feel human.”
The couple does know about the gender of their child but decided that it’s not a big deal. Goulding tells Vogue that the gender reveals trend is not really her thing.
She discusses her current pregnancy experience, and how the process feels both fast and slow at the same time. After the initial shock of the pregnancy, Goulding went through many bodily changes that affected how she was living her daily life, which caused her to go through stages of denial. Prior to her pregnancy, the artist had been working on her wellness book, Fitter. Calmer. Stronger., which discusses finding your inner strength in your health and fitness. Going through her appetite changes made her feel like all her progress was a waste.
Goulding also talks about the struggles of going through a pregnancy during the pandemic. Although she does have her husband, friends, and family, the singer reveals that the added isolation (from the world), makes the emotional experience feel a lot more lonely.
The artist has also taken the time to listen to the stories of multiple women and their differentiating pregnancy experiences. She’s been using those experiences to help her get through the pregnancy day by day, and enjoy the moment.
The pregnancy hasn’t stopped Goulding from making music! The artist is still working on new music and ready to back on tour when the world has opened up again.
