Elon Musk and Grimes have welcomed their second child!
Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, graced the cover of Vanity Fair for their April 2022 issue. It was here that Grimes revealed her, and Musk had a daughter in December of 2021.
According to the outlet, the couple had their second child via surrogate. The childs full name is Exa Dark Sideræl Musk. The unique name represents a variety of different things. Exa refers to a supercomputing term, exaFLOPS.
Grimes tells Vanity Fair “Dark” is, “the unknown. People fear it but truly it’s the absence of photons. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe.” Grimes also defined “Sideræl,” which is pronounced “sigh-deer-ee-el”, as “the true time of the universe, star time deep space time, not our relative earth time.”
The third part to the child’s name is also a nod to Grimes’ favorite Lord of the Rings character, Galadriel.
The parents did decide to nickname the baby girl, “Y”. Which fits with the couple’s first child X Æ A-12 which they nicknamed, “X”.

The couple began seeing each other in 2018 and it was in May of 2020 the couple announced they had their first child. The couple has had their fair share of ups and downs and in September of 2021 the couple seemingly broke up. Musk spoke of the breakup to Page Six, “We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms.”
Vanity Fair asked Grimes whether she was still with the Tesla CEO as to which Grimes replied, “There’s no real word for it,” continuing, “I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we’re very fluid. We live in separate houses. We’re best friends. We see each other all the time…We just have our own thing going on, and I don’t expect people to understand it.”
According to the outlet, Grimes and Musk plan to have more kids. Grimes reportedly said, “We’ve always wanted at least three or four.”
