“Euphoria” Season 2, Episode 8 Recap – February 27, 2022

The finale of Euphoria aired last night (Feb. 27) and fans were gripped through the entire episode.

Kicking things off in Fez’s apartment, Custer was seen trying to set up both Fez and his “brother” Ashtray for the murder of Mouse.

Fans were relieved when Faye secretly let Fez know what was happening. Faye started to plant the murder on Laurie knowing Custer was recording, but things went south when Ashtray suddenly stabbed Custer in the neck.

Suddenly, the scene cuts to Cassie standing in the doorway of the auditorium where Lexi’s play is still happening. Cassie was furious and emotional that Nate just broke up with her and with the fact the play portrayed her in a bad light. She storms on stage and belittles Lexi in front of the crowd.

Cassie has an entire breakdown on stage trying to make excuses for the actions she has done.  Maddy has had enough and storms the stage with Kat close behind. Maddy starts beating and chasing Cassie around the auditorium and school.

Viewers are then taken to Elliot’s house where Rue thanks him for unintentionally saving her life. Elliot decides to play a song that perfectly describes the friendship the two have.

Meanwhile back in Fez’s apartment, Fez explains to Ashtray that he will take the fall for everything and tells him to go outside and surrender. Ashtray has other plans and locks himself in the bathroom with every gun they have in the apartment.

The viewer thinks they are going to see what happens, but instead, they see Nate driving to his dad. Nate tells him how he tried to protect him, but that’s not the case anymore as he holds up a flash drive that has the videos of Cal sleeping with underage people. The police then arrest Cal as Nate walks out of the warehouse.

The episode finally flashes back to Fez’s apartment where the SWAT Team busts through the door. Fez is begging Ashtray to surrender knowing there is only one thing that will happen if he tries and fights.

Hearts ached when Fez begged the cops not to shoot saying, “There’s a kid in there.”

Ashtray doesn’t listen and starts shooting accidentally hitting Fez in the process. Ash and the SWAT Team go back and forth in a shootout. Suddenly, viewers see a laser pointed at Ash’s head and there is a thud noise of him hitting the ground.

The play ends with the characters, who are playing the girls, at Rue’s dad’s funeral which was a full-circle moment as the crowd erupted in cheers for Lexi.

Cassie, Kat, and Maddy were in the bathroom where Cassie explained to the girls how Nate broke up with her. Maddy ominously said, “Don’t worry this is just the beginning.”

Finally, viewers are taken back to the auditorium as Jules attempts to talk to Rue. But Rue knows they are never going back to what they were simply giving her a kiss on the head as she walks out of the auditorium. Rue’s voiceover explains how Jules was her first love and that she stayed clean through the rest of the school. Rue finishes with a quote from Ali as the screen goes black and plays “I’m Tired” by Labrinth with Zendaya.

Fans were completely invested throughout this entire season of Euphoria. Every week, they would share their thoughts and theories.

Many fans felt that there were still a lot of unanswered questions even after the finale, while others have expressed their devastation that Ashtray was killed.

Euphoria Season 3 is expected to come out in 2024. Until then, we will just have to keep rewatching Seasons 1 and 2 and theorize what may happen in the show’s third season.
