For those who don’t know, Troppo follows the story of Ted Conkaffey (Thomas Jane), an ex-cop falsely accused of committing a disturbing crime, who has escaped to hide away in the tropics of Far North Queensland. As he tries to avoid discovery, he’s drawn into investigating a wild murder and a missing person, alongside a complicated woman named Amanda Pharrell (Nicole Chamoun), with dark secrets of her own.
When asked what her favorite moment was from creating this show, Fox shared with Celeb Secrets that watching the growth of her work starting as a book, and now being on a screen was exciting.
“There’s nothing like that first moment of seeing it,” Fox explained. “I turned to my husband and I said ‘this is great!’ And I could hear the surprise in my voice, but it wasn’t because I didn’t think they would do a good job, it was because I was like ‘how did this happen?’”
“This tiny desire that I had as a kid to be an author turned into real people coming together and creating this show, from the lighting and the set, to the hundreds of people involved in making it, I just wonder how it happened. It’s just so wonderful and more than I could have ever hoped for,” she continued.
When bringing this beloved book to life, the actors knew that there would be challenges, especially when fans compare adaptations to its original form. When asked if the show will stick to the books or stray away on a new path Jane was quick to explain why sticking to the script is important to him.
“Why do you become a producer or director, it’s so you can find material that you love and that fans love and then bring it to the screen in a way that doesn’t piss them off!” Jane said. “You want them to enjoy it so it brings a new understanding and feeling, so they can experience this novel that they love all over again – we said when we started this project that ‘whatever happens we’re going to stay true to these characters’ and I feel like we did that.”
Celeb Secrets sat down with author Candice Fox, as well as cast members Thomas Jane (Ted Conkaffey) and Nicole Chamoun (Amanda Pharrell) to learn more about bringing their characters to life, what fans can expect from the show, and some of their own favorite memories that fans wouldn’t know.
