Hey Upper East Siders! As we inch closer and closer to the series premiere of the long-awaited reboot of the iconic television show Gossip Girl, the new cast takes the cover of the latest issue of Cosmopolitan.
The Gen Z era of the series will release on HBO Max, and “gossip girl” will go from running a blog to taking a step into the social media world. In the preview given to Cosmopolitan, the series will take place ahead of our current time, where everyone is vaccinated and living life mask-less.
Just when you think it couldn’t get any better, show-runner Josh Safran revealed there will be a super top secret “twist” on the continuation of the series that is kept discretion within everyone in the show. Now, we’re just dying to know!
The interview introduces the new cast members – Whitney Peak, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Jordan Alexander, Thomas Doherty, Eli Brown, Zíon Moreno, Savannah Smith, Tavi Gevinson – and a very small brief description of their characters. Although some of the characteristics of their characters sort of mimic their predecessors, the new cast are here with new stories and new drama.
The rising stars of Constance Billard and St. Jude’s will have a good amount of eyes on them as the series releases, and if you’re expecting some real-life drama within the group, you won’t find it! They revealed to Cosmopolitan that they are a tight-knit group and have been since they met! As they filmed the series during the Coronavirus pandemic, the cast spent more time together than they originally expected, even spending holidays such as Thanksgiving together.
“The dynamic with the cast, from the second we all met, has always been like, Oh, we’ve known each other in different lives,” Alyn Lind reveals.
Unlike the original series, this upcoming series does not exclusively center around the stories of white people. This time around, Showrunner Safran wanted the show to represent people of color and the she/he/theys of the world and break the norms of seeing the stereotypical characters portrayed in the media.
“There are more than enough shows with white people-centered in them,” Safran says, “I’m married to a Mexican American man; I am a queer man. My world is not exclusively white. No ones is.”
