HBO Max has officially released the trailer for its GOSSIP GIRL reboot. The highly-anticipated series will premiere on July 8, 2021.
HBO will be taking fans of the original series back to the Upper East Side – GOSSIP GIRL follows teen life beyond the walls of their elite private school; The young adults are confronted with social surveillance nearly nine years after the original blogger’s website went dark.
The trailer welcomes themes such as activism, identity exploration, and social media influencers, all of which were scarce in the original work. The Frank Ocean track “Super Rich Kids,” shadows the trailer, which illustrates little plot but plenty of scandals.
The series is based on the best-selling novel by Cecily von Ziegesar and the original show, developed by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. The original teen drama ran from 2007 to 2012, and helped make big stars out of the cast including Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Chase Crawford, and Penn Badgley.
