Hand Made House Are Changing The Pop Band Industry With Their New Single ‘Like The Weather’

Hand Made House is making pop bands more modern with their broad range of music, as they take an edgier route with their latest single, “Like The Weather.”

The band consists of four members, lead singer Tucker ClickJosh Nardine on drums, and Maison Thomas-Eudy and Amin Mortada on guitar and vocals. The group of lifelong friends met at Berklee College of Music and immediately had great energy and chemistry with one another. The guys naturally started creating and writing music together, and it slowly turned into them taking the process more seriously, which lead to the creation of Hand Made House

“I don’t think we ever had the idea of ‘Let’s start a band,’” Maison confesses, “We just loved music, and it just happened on its own.”

The idea for the band name came from Tucker after he wrote a song for one of his friends who had been feeling lonely and going through a difficult time. He based the name, Hand Made House, on the lyrics, “If hand made house/And heart makes home/You’ve got what it takes/To build one of your very own,” which is the same message the band conveys through their music.

Their new song, “Like The Weather,” is held with that idea in mind. The song was inspired by a friend of Tuckers’ and his experiences. When asked what they hope listeners will take away from the single, Tucker tells Celeb Secrets he hopes that they’ll find themselves in the experience as well and scream their hearts out to the track.

“I hope that they can relate to it,” Tucker says, “I think this song has a lot of lines that people would listen to and go “I’ve been through that” or even just want to scream along to.”

The move to an edgier sound came naturally for the band as all the members grew up listening to Rock and Punk. They added a fresh new take to their sound by adding Hip-Hop/Pop elements. Moving forward, the band decided to create music that they’d want to listen to rather than keep to what was familiar to them.

“We don’t really go into a project thinking we want to make ‘this’ or ‘that’ genre,” Amin reveals, “We just go in wanting to top what we did before. I’m not interested in remaking the same record over and over again, so things are naturally going to sound different as we grow as artists.”

Hand Made House sits down with Celeb Secrets for a Q&A to talk more about their formation as a group, their biggest musical inspirations, and what’s to come in the future for the band.

Celeb Secrets: Hey Guys! How have you been? How have you all been during quarantine?

Josh: Doing really great! Quarantine was and is tough for everyone but I think we got to make the best of it by focusing on writing and creating some new things.

Tucker: I’m doing quite alright! Thanks for asking. I think it’s been a tough year, but I’m thankful to be here and for my health. I’m hoping things get better and better.

CS: You guys have quickly gained a following through your incredible music! For fans still getting to know you, could you give us three words that describe your band?

T: Energetic, homey, and childlike.

CS: You all have been lifelong friends, what made you guys want to start a band?

T: Honestly, I don’t even know if we thought about it. Maison and I had written a couple of songs, Josh was demoing them, and then eventually we started taking it seriously. We like the energy and chemistry between us initially. The same goes for when Amin joined the band. I think everyone meshes well together.

Maison: We met at Berklee College of Music and just naturally wanted to start writing music together. So we sat down and just started working on songs. I don’t think we ever had the idea of “let’s start a band” we just loved music and it just happened on its own.

Amin: I don’t know what you’re talking about. I barely know these guys.

CS: What’s the story behind your band name “Hand Made House?”

Tucker: I was writing a song about my friend who was going through a really difficult time and was feeling very alone. The last verse of the song had the lines:

If hand made house

And heart makes home

You’ve got what it takes

To build one of your very own

I felt like we had built a home within our band, and it felt like we had built it from the ground up. I remember telling the other guys I wanted that to be our “thing” we bring to the music industry. I want our fans to want to feel like a community when they come to ours shows. So, we pulled that line and named the band!

CS: Who are your biggest musical inspirations?

M: Growing up, I definitely took a lot of inspiration from watching and listening to my dad and Matchbox Twenty. I think I’ve always looked up to them and tried to get there and be like that. As a guitarist, I take a lot from Kings of Leon, John Mayer, Paramore, young the giant, and the foo fighters. I’ve always looked up to all these bands/artists and their style has been ingrained in me.

CS: Your new single “Like The Weather” is the perfect top-down scream your heart out song for the Summer, you guys have even described the song as “a culmination of a lot of pent-up feelings and a lot of soul searching.” What was the inspiration behind the song?

T: This song was inspired by someone in my life, but has added elements to further the story or make it more interesting. The whole high school line was added because I wanted it to feel like there was more history, and a lot of people can relate to that kind of line. Funny enough, I tried to psychoanalyze where this song came from. I think it’s about switching back and forth between an avoidant to an anxious attachment style and having that be hard to deal with. That’s where I came up with the lyric “I just take our love and change it up like the weather.”

CS: What message do you hope fans will take from “Like the weather?”

T: I hope that they can relate to it. I think this song has a lot of lines that people would listen to and go “I’ve been through that” or even just want to scream along to.

CS: You guys took an edgier route with “Like The Weather.” What made you guys want to create an edgier sound?

J: We all grew up listening to Rock and punk music actually. It’s where we sort of all started. Doing something that was on the more edgy side felt really natural for us. It was really fun to mix together that punky sound with some more Hip Hop/Pop elements. It felt fresh and familiar at the same time.

A: It wasn’t a pre-meditated type of thing. We were all feeling the pressure of moving to a new city and just dealing with personal stuff. The overall sound of Like The Weather is just a reflection of those experiences.

CS: Is “Like The Weather” a preview of what’s to come from you guys? Do you guys want to explore any new genres?

J: Recently we started taking the approach of making music we want to hear instead of moving toward a sound that’s familiar for the band. I think we’re going to keep creating, maybe we’ll put a few genres together and see what comes out.

A: Yes, in some ways. In general, we don’t really go into a project thinking we want to make “this” or “that” genre. We just go in wanting to top what we did before. Personally, I’m not interested in remaking the same record over and over again so things are naturally going to sound different as we grow as artists.

CS: I know quarantine has been tough for all of us this past year, but have you guys picked up any new hobbies that you wouldn’t have otherwise?

J: This last spring and summer I picked up hiking a lot! I went Maybe 2 or 3 times a week in Boston and even dragged Amin along with me for a full day hike. Hoping to continue on the amazing trails in LA!

A: I started working on my production skills a lot more. Well…I guess that not a hobby. I eat a lot more pizza these days. Does that count?

CS: What are your goals for this year?

J: We want to keep putting out music as much as possible. We have lots of stuff in the works right now and it’s going to be really fun to see it all come to fruition. Coming off our last EP it’s time for a new era of Hand Made House, starting with this song “Like The Weather”.

CS: Since we are Celeb Secrets, are there any secrets you can share with us about any upcoming projects?

M: I think the biggest secret we are holding is the next single. It’s not coming out for a while but it’s absolutely beautiful. We are writing a ton of new stuff and we are working on a live video right now. It’s a long road of fun ahead!
