Recording artist, songwriter, and producer Idarose is an all around stellar example of what it means to be a boss in the music space. Not only does she release her own music that she writes, but she also produces that music, and writes and produces for other artists — with her most recent being Becky G and Trevor Daniel‘s “F Is For Friends” from Nickelodeon’s The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run that’s now streaming on Paramount+!
We caught up with Idarose to talk all about her original single “When I Don’t Have You,” its music video and her plans for the rest of 2021. Check out our full Q&A below and be sure to keep up with all of her new releases by giving her a follow on Instagram at @idarosemusic.

Celeb Secrets: Thank you for chatting with us! Can you introduce yourself for any of our readers getting to know you for the first time?
Idarose: “Hey, thanks for having me! I’m Idarose and I’m an artist/songwriter/producer originally from South Florida. I make songs that feel like a little portal view into my mind – my dreams, my fears, my vulnerabilities, my pain, my flaws, my secrets and even my sense of humor.”
CS: You recently released the music video for your single “When I Don’t Have You.” What was the inspiration behind the music video, and how do you come up with your visual concepts for each song?
Idarose: “I wanted the whole video to essentially feel like a dream, since that’s where the song all started. For the first scene, we decorated a room with as many random things as we could bring to the set, things like a melted Dalí clock, a tipped-over chair, Chinese takeout boxes, neon signs, and a toy piano, and it had this cool Alice and Wonderland vibe to it. We incorporated a lot of glitter and sparkle into my makeup and into the set design of each shot to carry the dreamy theme throughout the video.
I really like to take a deep dive into my lyrics when I’m working on visuals to make sure I capture not only the story I’m telling through the song but also the underlying themes and emotions, and since I have Synesthesia (my mind associates color with pitch), I like to make sure my visuals match the colors that I was feeling when I made the song.”
CS: What was your favorite part about filming the music video, and do you have a favorite scene/shot?
Idarose: “I have always wanted to film a music video with a vintage car. One of the PA’s on set was able to ask her sister’s boyfriend to bring over his old car, and we put a smoke machine behind the car which added to the 80’s dream vibe. That was definitely my favorite scene!”
CS: Who are some of your inspirations as an artist? How about as a songwriter?
Idarose: “I am constantly inspired by so many amazing female artists, who are songwriters in their own right – a few of my favorites are Lorde, BANKS, Fletcher, and Maggie Rogers; I love everything about their work from their storytelling and sonic identity to the visuals and the way they package it all together.”
CS: What can fans expect from you for the rest of 2021?
Idarose: “I have been working on an album of songs that tell a story. I’ll be releasing more music and content that pieces the story all together.”
CS: We are Celeb Secrets – Do you have any secret behind-the-scenes stories from filming the music video?
Idarose: “We got to the set at 1pm and didn’t finish filming until about 4am. I am definitely more of a morning person than a night person, so by the last shot, which was the scene on the silver bed with the black tux jacket, I kept wanting to take a nap on the bed between shots. I think my exhaustion was hidden by some clever angles, or maybe it just matched the dream/bed theme!”
