John Mayer has announced his first album in four years! The highly-anticipated album, titled Sob Rock, is slated to come out on July 16th.
Back in March, Mayer posted a series of TikToks teasing songs from Sob Rock. He opened up to the The Wall Street Journal about what led him to using TikTok as his platform of choice for new music announcements. He said, “I don’t ever want to be the type of artist who goes, ‘no, no, no.’ Once you get past the age of 40, anything can be Elvis. And you have to be very careful that you’re not the guy shaking his head at Elvis.”

On Monday (May 31), Mayer posted the first teaser hinting at a single release on Friday. The photo is edited to look like the front page of a magazine cover titled, “Friday Weekly.”
In quotes, it says, “Did I say April? I meant June.” The quote seemingly pokes fun at how he originally said that music was going to be released in April in an interview with Kerwin Frost.

Around the world, fans have spotted Sob Rock advertisements on billboards, in train stations, and in magazines.
