Maria Becerra has lived up to her nickname as “La Nena de Argentina” — “Argentina’s girl” — as she’s winning over the hearts of her countrymen, and later the world, with infectious pop smashes and a bubbly personality to match.
Born in the 2000s, Becerra began uploading video content to social media as a teen, quickly gaining millions of followers with confessionals, make-up tutorials, and soulful covers of Rihanna and Ariana Grande.
By the time Becerra launched her debut EP 222 in 2019, she transmuted her viral charm into a seductive sound that melds Argentina’s ebullient trap movement with global pop ambition. She broadened her palette with Caribbean references and superstar guests, eventually breaking through with reggaetón scorcher “Qué Más Pues?” with J Balvin, and then later dipping into bachata with Prince Royce on “Te Espero.” Most recently, she’s worked with reggaeton hitmaker, Yandel in their newest collaboration “Sexo Es La Moda.”
The commercial success of Becerra’s music since then has given her two sold-out shows in her home country, which have decisively confirmed the weight of her endearing moniker. Since March, the 24-year-old has been on the road performing her songs all over the globe on her first-ever World Tour 2024, which has hit major markets in countries like her native Argentina, Guatemala, Bolivia, México, Italy, Spain, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay and the United States.
“Wow, it’s incredible. The truth is that we still have half of the tour left, but hey, we’re really having a great time. We’ve been traveling to so many beautiful places and getting to know states that I had never stepped foot in,” Becerra told Celeb Secrets host Lupe LLerenas backstage following her performance at the 2024 iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina in Miami, Florida last month.
“At the shows, I say, ‘How many Latinos are here? How many Americans are here?’ A lot of people raise their hands and it’s something that’s really crazy for me, I can’t believe it,” she continued.
Aside from just coming to the shows, Maria revealed that the fans have given her things that money can’t buy, and that’s love and affection wherever she goes.
“They really always give me a lot of love, a lot of affection, a lot of understanding,” she shared. “I feel that they are very, very supportive with me, you know? They want to make you feel safe and comfortable wherever you are, so I really appreciate that.”
