Marvel’s Eternals is still on top! After being out and topping the box office for two weekends in a row, the film has now generated around $281.4 million million globally, according to CNBC.
The blockbuster — which follows a group of ancient immortal beings (who have secretly lived among humans for years) in their battle with ancient Deviants— made around $71 Million on its opening day, and $161.7 million opening weekend making it the second best opening for a movie, according to Deadline.
Although Eternals has had a strong run at the box office for the past two weekends, it is predicted that this may be its last weekend on top, due to both Ghostbusters: Afterlife and King Richard releasing to theaters on November 19th.
According to Variety, Eternals is headed for one of the larger second weekend drops in the MCU’s eleven-year history. Black Widow outstanding, the only other franchise entries to fall at least 62% in their sophomore outings are 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp and 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, both of which were competing against much busier summer seasons.
Directed by Academy Award-winning Chloé Zhao, the film stars big names like Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani, Kit Harington, and Bill Skarsgård.
As of right now, Eternals is only available to watch in theatres, as Disney and Marvel haven’t revealed when it will be available to stream.
