Star of the floor and vault, Skinner will be competing as an individual at the Olympics this year. The gymnast was an alternate on the Rio team after finishing fourth at the Olympic Trials, and faced a similar situation with trials this year. Close to the making the four person team, the selection committee decided to give her spot to McCallum. Past credits include being a 2016 Olympic alternate, the 2014 World Championships where she contributed to Team USA’s gold medal. She also won an individual bronze medal on vault and placed fourth on floor exercise. Her esteemed reputation on the vault will (hopefully) take the team far. We can’t wait to see her moves!
A TRUE PERSEVERER: In January, she suffered an achilles tendon injury and later this year she found herself hospitalized with pneumonia after contracting COVID-19. After many years of failing to qualify for the Olympic trials, she is back and ready to compete.
