Ever since Kim Petras took to Twitter on April 6th to tease her upcoming collaboration with Nicki Minaj, fans everywhere have been on the edge of their seats — like seriously, could we imagine a more ICONIC duo??
With the words “Yeah! It’s Barbie and it’s Kim Petras!” blaring over a sample of the 1998 club classic “Better Off Alone” by Alice Deejay, it is safe to say that everyone was counting down the days until its release on April 21st.

The hot new track comes just a few months after the transgender pop princess won a GRAMMY Award for her smash hit “Unholy” with Sam Smith, making history as the first transgender woman to win the award for best pop duo/group performance.
With the success of “Unholy,” Petras has quickly launched into the limelight, ultimately getting the opportunity to work with some of her all-time favorite artists (like Nicki Minaj herself).
In an exclusive interview with USA Today, the German singer-songwriter shared, “I’m a Barbz (the nickname for Minaj’s fans). I think I’ve tried to write songs for Nicki since I started getting good at writing. It’s always been a big dream. She’s so inspirational as a lyricist and she constantly pushes herself and always drops the freshest [music].”
We are BEYOND happy to see Kim Petras’ dreams becoming a reality!
Aside from “Alone” by Kim Petras and Nicki Minaj, another notable New Music Friday release is YoungBoy Never Broke Again‘s long-awaited album, Don’t Try This At Home. The tracklist features collaborations with Mariah The Scientist, Nicki Minaj, Post Malone and The Kid LAROI, making for a no-skip project from top to bottom.
Fortunately, this is just the beginning of the long list of artists who gave us FIRE new collaborations this week…
The Weeknd and Future teamed up for “Double Fantasy,” Bebe Rexha and Snoop Dogg for “Satellite,” Bree Runway and Khalid for “Be The One,” Jackson Wang and Ciara for “Slow,” Rita Ora and Fatboy Slim for “Praising You,” P1Harmony and New Hope Club for “Super Chic,” Armani White and A$AP Ferg for “SILVER TOOTH.” and more.
Grupo Frontera and Bad Bunny teamed up for “un x100to” as well, just one week after Benito’s highly-anticipated Coachella debut. With his performance at weekend two scheduled for TONIGHT, we will just have to wait and see if he adds this hot new track to his set.
In addition to this, some of our favorite artists had solo releases this week that we seriously can’t turn off, including Ed Sheeran, Latto, The Kid LAROI, Moneybagg Yo, the Foo Fighters, Suga of BTS, Florence + The Machine, The Band Camino, AJR, MUNA, iann dior, Arlo Parks, Loren Gray, Thomas Day, joan and more.
Since parting ways with their record label last year, Against The Current is entering a brand new era that we are SO excited about. As a part of this week’s New Music Friday, the New York pop-rock trio dropped “‘good guy’” on all music streaming platforms, and it is truly a must-listen. You can learn more about their new era by watching our interview here.
