New Music Friday: RM Releases his First Solo Project Since BTS’ Hiatus and More

After announcing the band’s hiatus earlier this year, all seven members of BTS are temporarily splitting up to pursue solo projects, slowly rolling out both singles and full length albums as time progresses.

As a part of this week’s New Music Friday, Kim Namjoon, better known by his stage name RM, showed us what he’s been working on during his break from BTS.

The talented South Korean rapper released Indigo today (December 2nd), which he defines as “the last archive of [his] twenties,” and it is truly a work of art.

Indigo is primarily R&B, and it features collaborations with stars like Anderson .PaakErykah Badu, Tablo, Kim Sawol, Paul Blanco, Mahalia, Colde, youjeen and parkiyoon. All 10 tracks are raw, honest and diverse, and we absolutely love the album as a whole.

While this is just a glimpse into what RM has in store as a solo artist, we already are obsessed with his individual sound, and we can’t wait for his next release!

Aside from Indigo, this week’s New Music Friday playlist featured several other album releases, many of which included collaborations that are bound to take the world by storm. For example, Arcangel released his new album SR. SANTOS, and he collaborated with Bad Bunny on one of the tracks, “La Jumpa.” Fans everywhere are thrilled to see this duo in action!

In addition to this, Metro Boomin released HEROES & VILLAINS which featured collabs on collabs! John Legend, Future, Chris Brown, Don Toliver, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Young Nudy, Young Thug, The Weeknd, Mustafa, Gunna and more of our favorite artists can be heard on tracks throughout the album. One specific track, “Feel The Fiyaaaah,” features vocals from A$AP Rocky as well as Takeoff, who unfortunately passed away prior to its release.

On top of these three incredible albums, Noah Cyrus came out with a deluxe version of The Hardest Part, Lil Peep with LIVE FOREVER, Powfu with surrounded by hounds and serpentsJessie Murph with Drunk in the Bathtub and Olivia Knox with Smoke Signal.

Aside from album releases, this week’s New Music Friday playlist had quite a few FIRE singles, including “Sh***in’ Me” by A$AP Rocky, “FTCU” by Latto, GloRilla and Gangsta Boo, “Boy’s a Liar” by PinkPantheress, “Let Me Down” by Quinn XCII and Chelsea Cutler, “Ballin” by Pheelz, “One Mic, One Gun” by Nas and 21 Savage, “Bop Bop” by Saucy Santana, “You Know What I Need” by PNAU and Troye Sivan, “It Could Be Me” by Stephen Dawes, “Afterparty” by Loud Luxury and Hook N Sling, “Ain’t Christmas” by Alexander 23 and Laufey and more.

Some highly anticipated singles, in particular, are “Pointless” by Lewis Capaldi, which he has been teasing nonstop on TikTok, as well as “One Thing At A Time,” “Tennessee Fan” and “Days That End In Why” by Morgan Wallen. Fans everywhere are unbelievably excited to finally have these songs available to stream on all platforms.
