Rookie pitcher Reid Detmers pitched a no-hitter for the Los Angeles Angels last night, and a teammate of his had something snappy to say.
After the Angels won the game 12-0 against the Tampa Bay Rays, and Detmers pitched a full game not allowing a Rays hit, the 12th no-hitter in Angels history, and only the 315th in Major League history, had been achieved. To commemorate the achievement, former Met and current Angel Noah Syndergaard congratulated his teammate, yet threw shade on his former team in classic troll style.
Following the no-hitter, Syndergaard took to Instagram to post a story, where he wrote “This is what a ‘real’ no-hitter looks like.” This was essentially referring to the Mets’ combined no-hitter which occurred on April 29. In that game, the Mets did not allow a hit against the Philadelphia Phillies, but it was a combined no-hitter, meaning that it was accomplished by more than one pitcher.
Hate to break to you, but this song ain't about you. This was about Reid, a great teammate, throwing a 1 pitcher No-Hitter, which is a rarity by today's game standards. Mets have a good team, enjoy that instead of stirring shit. As do the Angels, so drop the drama and move on. https://t.co/o296FZPbT9

Oh and to be clear, I don't think a combined no hitter is the same as "real" 1 pitcher no hitter.
And Ban the Wave
And Mr. Met is a creep

After being blasted by Mets fans over the post, Syndergaard took to Twitter to express his sentiment. He made clear that he was celebrating his teammate Detmers’ no-hitter, and blasted Mets fans for “stirring s**t”. In a follow-up tweet, he openly called the Mets mascot, Mr. Met, a “creep,” and stated that a combined no-hitter is not as legit as a one-pitcher no-hitter.
Syndergaard made his MLB debut in 2015 with the Mets, and played with them until 2021 (he did not play a game in 2020, however, and only made one start in 2021 due to surgery and elbow issues). Despite the Mets offering him an $18.5 million contract, Syndergaard chose to leave New York in favor of the Angels and their $21 million offer.
