Q&A: Lilo Baier Gives Us an Inside Look into Her Debut EP ‘Introducing Lilo’ (Exclusive)

Lilo Baier has something to “celebrate” after releasing her debut EP, Introducing Lilo, that the world has been waiting for.

The young artist has had an incredible journey leading to this moment, as she was a semi-finalist for Germany’s The Voice Kids and starred in the TV Series Ollie and Friends.

Baier spoke to Celeb Secrets in a brand-new interview where she talked all about the process of making her debut EP and her career so far.

“The whole process was such a blast! First, I came up with song concepts that really matter to me. After figuring out the direction of the songs, I went to the studio and my producer, and I finished the songs. We then recorded them which was so much fun!,” Baier to CS reporters exclusively. “We played around with the melodies and harmonies. After all my songs were recorded, I started to think about the EP and how I would order the songs, and when to release them. And of course, we also started the video shoots for songs.”

The five-song EP features pop sounds like the track “Real Friends” and emotional heartfelt ballads like “Better In Time.” Baier’s EP takes you on a journey through what the young artist felt while making the move from Singapore to Los Angeles to follow her dream. Telling Celeb Secrets, “The writing process for the EP took quite a while. I carry a notebook with me where I’m writing down all my potential song ideas and topics that were important to me. So, when I started the project, I went through the journal and decided on the five topics that I wanted to write a song about. The 5 songs describe my journey from Singapore to Los Angeles.”

Celeb Secrets: How would you describe your music and “Introducing Lilo” to fans?

Lilo Baier: “My music is very uplifting and inspirational. I have some songs on my EP that are faster, and they have such a cool vibe to them. “Celebrate” and “California’s so Cool”, are both songs you can jam to and feel good about your day. I also have slower songs that are about getting through hard times and following your dreams. These songs, “Better in time” and “Believe” are more inspirational.”

CS: Can you tell us what your favorite song from “Introducing Lilo” is?

LB: “My favorite song on my EP is probably “Better in Time”. This song is a slow ballad that is more on the emotional side. It’s about how there may be bumps in the road, and challenges you have to face, but there will always be a light at the end of the tunnel. It’s about never giving up and following your dreams, which is something I can really relate to.”

CS: You shared a snippet for your music video “Better in Time”. What was it like shooting that music video?

LB: “Shooting the music video for “Better in Time” was such a fun experience! I loved my outfit and different hairstyles. When we first got to set, we discussed what we were going to do and got ready with hair and makeup! We started shooting and we had so much fun going to different areas of our shooting location and getting different shots.”

CS: Your song “California’s So Cool” explains things you love about California, but what do you think has been your favorite thing since moving to California?

LB: “My favorite thing about California is probably the weather. I used to live in Singapore, so I’m used to high and humid temperatures every day. Moving to LA, I have become obsessed with the amazing weather! I just love the blue sky – whenever I feel down, I only need to look up and my energy is back. California is really cool.”

CS: You began performing at a very young age, what inspired you to get into singing and acting?

LB: “I have been performing covers since I was seven years old. I started performing all over the world as well as in international touring musicals and plays. For the last year, I have been focusing more on my singing career as well and creating original music. Acting wise, I got my first major lead when I was around ten years old, “Ollie and Friends” which was a 31-episode TV series! I absolutely loved doing that because I discovered that I had a passion for tv acting and that’s where my love for it began.”

CS: You have taken on various acting roles and have worked on making music. Do you plan on continuing the two in the future or would you like to focus on one path?

LB: “I 100% want to continue both paths of acting and singing. I have been doing both since I was young, and I just love them equally. These two things are my passion and I want to do it for the rest of my life. I just feel so energized when I sing or when I act. Maybe one day I can combine both and film a musical 😊”

CS: You have starred in tv series and have been on stage with David Beckham. Is there a favorite memory that sticks out to you from your career so far?

LB: “A memory that sticks out to me would be The Voice Kids. Being on the TV show was something that I’ll never forget. The feeling of millions of people watching you, and then seeing all judges turn around during my blind audition is unbeatable! I got to work so closely with my coach, Lena – who is a huge star in Germany — and with my teammates who became friends for life. I will always treasure that experience.”

CS: Are there any artists right now that you love and maybe would like to collaborate with in the future?

LB: “Definitely Justin Bieber. He is one of my favorite artists of all time. I love the clarity of his voice, and stage presence. Of course, his songs are amazing too! Being able to collaborate with Justin Bieber has been a huge dream of mine since I was younger. I think our voices would sound amazing together.”

CS: “Introducing Lilo” is hopefully just the start for more music…are there any future plans in 2022 that you can tell us about?

LB: “Yes!! I’m already working on new music which is amazing! I have been working with various new ideas and a new direction I want to pursue. Hopefully a lot of new music will be coming your way soon!”

CS: Since we’re Celeb Secrets-do you have a secret about yourself and the EP that we wouldn’t know?

LB: “Not many people know this, but I actually recorded “Celebrate” for the first time three years ago!! I was planning on releasing it, but because of Covid we didn’t want to film a music video, and so we waited. Last year we went back and re-recorded it and made quite a few adjustments as my voice completely changed!”
