After taking a short hiatus to hone in on her sound and rediscover herself, multi-talented actress and writer Katrina Kusa is now emerging as a new recording artist named W!G.
With the new name comes a new look and new sound, and this is by far our favorite music that the young artist has shared.
“W!G was inspired by my obsession with wigs!” Katrina tells Celeb Secrets exclusively. “During the COVID-19 pandemic till now, I wanted to try out different looks ranging from fashion to hairstyles. I became obsessed and in love with the different wigs I bought for myself. Each wig has its own unique persona in every outfit I am wearing. This was the right time to change my name to W!G because I wanted to open a new chapter for myself as I’m still growing and finding myself as an artist.”
W!G just released her single “Candy Land” and the upbeat and vibrant pop record combines modern pop influences with a hard beat and a sing-song style rap cadence that invites listeners into the creative mind of W!G.
“‘Candy Land’ is about being in a utopia. It’s a place where everything seems wonderful and playful, but beneath the colorful silhouette lies the real world filled with facing responsibilities, growing up too fast, and witnessing unwanted communication or contact either verbally, written, or on social media,” she says.

CS: W!G, Congratulations on the release of “Candy Land!” Tell us a little bit about this song and what it means to you?
W: “‘Candy Land’ is about being in a utopia. It’s a place where everything seems wonderful and playful, but beneath the colorful silhouette lies the real world filled with facing responsibilities, growing up too fast, and witnessing unwanted communication or contact either verbally, written, or on social media.
This song means so much to me because everyone at some point in their lives lost had to face challenges that cost them to grow up or lose that innocence. I certainly did. As a 17 year old girl still growing up, I come across many situations like this and I know other kids are going through that as well, so I wanted to share this as a way to remind them they are not alone, and that we can all get through whatever it is we are facing.”
CS: “Candy Land” is your first release as W!G. What inspired the name change, and why was this the right time to do it?
W: “Believe it or not, W!G was inspired by my obsession with wigs! During the COVID-19 pandemic till now, I wanted to try out different looks ranging from fashion to hairstyles. I became obsessed and in love with the different wigs I bought for myself. Each wig has its own unique persona in every outfit I am wearing. This was the right time to change my name to W!G because I wanted to open a new chapter for myself as I’m still growing and finding myself as an artist.”
CS: “Candy Land” is such a new sound for you and our favorite of your singles! Do you have more new music planned and what can we expect from it?
W: “Yes! I have plenty of new music planned and am exploring different soundscapes. All of my songs are cinematic and lyrical, and my next release is a little more of a heartfelt song that I think people will be able to relate to.”
CS: Who is W!G to you and how do you come up with this persona? What do you hope W!G will inspire others to do?
W: “W!G is an unstoppable fierce individual who isn’t afraid of any challenges coming her way. W!G is ready to paint her canvas with new music that she hopes her listeners will find inspiring. I hope W!G will inspire others to believe in themselves and embrace who they really are. She wants all her fans and listeners to be unstoppable just like her!”
CS: And of course we all have to know…what is your favorite candy!?
W: “My favorite candy is Kit Kats. I absolutely love them!”
