Former Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder has agreed to a deal to coach the Atlanta Hawks, the team announced Sunday, Feb. 26.
While the terms of the deal were not disclosed by the Hawks, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowksi that it is a five-year contract. Snyder is expected to make his debut on the sidelines as early as Tuesday when the Hawks take on the Wizards.

Snyder’s hiring comes five days after the team fired former head coach Nate McMillan, following a 29-30 start to the season. In two games as the interim coach, assistant Joe Prunty won both and will retain his assistant position along with the rest of the coaching staff.
In eight seasons in Utah from 2014 to 2022, Snyder went 372-264 and made the playoffs six times, although he never made it past the conference semifinals. He was also the Hawks head assistant coach a season before becoming the Jazz head coach.
According to Wojnarowski, the move for Snyder to take over the Hawks right away is rooted both in the desire to make an Eastern Conference playoff run and give Snyder a chance to implement his program and standards and to evaluate the franchise’s players on the way into the offseason. They have a star player in guard Trae Young, and the team is hoping Snyder will be a long-term solution after dismissing two head coaches in three years.
