The Las Vegas Raiders have officially found their Derek Carr replacement, as the team wasted no time and agreed to a three-year $67.5 million contract with former Niners quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Garoppolo reunites with former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, the Raiders’ head coach.
Garoppolo is recovering from a broken foot, which he suffered in a week thirteen matchup against the Dolphins. Garoppolo spent six seasons with San Francisco, and the team went to two NFC Championship Games –– including winning the NFC Championship against the Packers in 2020.
In eleven appearances last season, Garoppolo threw sixteen touchdowns, four interceptions, and 2437 passing yards; Garoppolo took over for Trey Lance early in the season after Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury.

As for the Raiders, after deciding to release Carr, it seems as if Garoppolo was one of their targeted options for their QB1 position after reports stated that the team was initially in on Aaron Rodgers due to Rodgers’ former wide receiver one being on the team in Davante Adams. However, after reports suggested the team was no longer in on Rodgers, Garoppolo became Vegas’s clear-cut number-one guy.
It will be interesting to see how this pairing pans out as Garoppolo is now reunited with Raiders head man Josh McDaniels who was the OC of the Patriots when Garoppolo was there to begin his career; also reuniting with Garoppolo is Raiders general manager Dave Ziegler who was a part of the New England front office that drafted Garoppolo in 2014.

This move signifies more Patriots connections for the Raiders, but only time will tell whether or not this will be a successful marriage for both parties.
