During his first official day as the defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins, Vic Fangio announced during his introductory press conference with the South Florida media that Chargers defensive coordinator Renaldo Hill would be joining his defensive staff with the Dolphins. So, Fangio has already made a splash in such a short time in Miami.
Chargers’ DC Renaldo Hill is leaving LA to reunite with Miami defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and become the Dolphins defensive pass-game coordinator, per source. Hill was Fangio’s top target and out of respect to his former boss, Chargers’ HC Brandon Staley allowed his… https://t.co/wHFKnMCPvJ

Hill has ties with the Dolphins franchise as he played the safety position for the team from 2006-2008 and was Miami’s assistant defensive backs coach in 2018. So, this will be Hill’s third stint with the Dolphins, and this is the best Dolphins team that Hill will get to be a part of.

Hill’s experience as a defensive coordinator for the last couple of seasons with the Chargers will greatly benefit Miami’s players and help Fangio, as Hill can be sort of an assistant DC for him to lean on. Something to point out, Hill was part of Fangio’s Broncos staff in 2019.
Coach Fangio on Renaldo Hill:
He’s a talented coach who’s got a bright future in the NFL. He worked with us for two years in Denver. His familiarity with me and the system was important to me. Regardless of that, his ability to be a great coach is what attracted me to him.

Before becoming a DC, Hill’s primary role was in the secondary; when looking at Miami’s defense, that aspect of their defensive unit needs as much help as possible due to many young and inexperienced players in that department. The Dolphins secondary does have some stars like Jevon Holland, Kader Kohou, Nik Needham, Xavien Howard, and Brandon Jones, but now, these guys will flourish even more with the arrival of Hill in Miami Gardens.
After adding two of the top defensive minds in the league, it has been a very productive offseason so far for Miami in the coaching department. Next up will be free agency, and following that will be the draft, so if the Dolphins can accomplish some moves in those key events, next season looks very bright for the fins.
