Defying gravity and pushing the limits of snowboarding, Scotty James once again cemented his status as a snowboarding legend, securing his fourth consecutive gold medal in the Monster Energy Men’s Snowboard SuperPipe Final during X Games Aspen 2025 at Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, CO on Thursday (January 23).
The 30-year-old Australian superstar delivered a jaw-dropping performance, landing the first-ever triple cork 1440 in X Games competition and tying Shaun White for the most medals in the discipline.
As fans packed the venue, braving the frigid temperatures for a front-row seat to history, James delivered a near-flawless run featuring a Switch chicken wing McTwist, Cab triple cork 1440 grabbing mute, frontside 1260 stalefish, backside 1080 stalefish, and a switch 1260 indy. His impeccable execution earned him a score of 96.33, securing yet another top podium finish.

“Just winning a gold medal is amazing here at X Games, but four in a row…I’m absolutely speechless,” James said while reflecting on the significance of his victory. “The first triple cork – you have to have it in the mix to make any damage on the podium, and putting my own flair feels really good. It’s my first gold as a father. It was a good day for dad, Leo. I love you!”
James also spoke to Celeb Secrets about the challenging conditions, with freezing temperatures making competition even tougher. “Yeah, honestly, it’s been so cold all week. So it’s been a challenge in itself,” he admitted. “I was running around a lot up there staying warm and just ready to go when I could drop. But I mean, it’s Winter X Games—we gotta expect that.”
Reflecting on his growth in the sport, James added, “The atmosphere at X Games never gets old. It’s unbelievable, honestly. And I’m just so stoked every time I get to be here competing with the best in the world.”
With this latest victory, James moves just one gold medal away from matching White’s all-time record for most SuperPipe wins, further cementing his place in X Games history.

The competition was fierce, with Japan’s Yuto Totsuka securing silver in a dramatic last-run jump over fellow countryman Ayumu Hirano, who claimed bronze. Meanwhile, surprise finalist Lucas Foster (USA) turned heads with a strong performance, finishing just shy of the podium in fourth place.
When asked what advice he would give to his younger self, James shared a message of gratitude and reflection. “Enjoy the moment because, um, I never could have dreamt this—to have done a four-peat and let alone be standing at the top of an X Games podium,” he said. “Little me would be saying, really think about what I’ve just done, enjoy it, and then look to the next goal.”
He also expressed his appreciation for the fans and their energy, saying, “The crowd never gets old. Their energy pushes me to go bigger, try harder, and put on the best show I can. It’s what makes X Games so special.”

As the 24th edition of X Games Aspen kicked off with a night of historic performances, James proved once again why he’s the face of SuperPipe snowboarding. With his unparalleled skills, relentless determination, and undeniable showmanship, the Aussie snowboarder continues to inspire the next generation while adding to his legacy — one gold medal at a time.
