Selena Gomez and Rare Beauty Launch Mental Health 101 Campaign

Rare Beauty was launched by singer and actress Selena Gomez last year and revolved around initiating conversations about self-love and mental health. With Mental Health Awareness month right around the corner, Rare Beauty is introducing a new campaign that advocates for bringing more mental health services and funding to schools.

The Rare Impact Fund aims to “increase access to mental health services in educational settings” and has a goal to raise $100 million for these services in the next 10 years. Along with this, Rare Beauty is announcing its initiative titled Mental Health 101, hoping to start the conversation regarding why mental health classes should be taught in schools.

“This campaign is so close to my heart because of my own struggles with mental health. know first hand how scary and lonely it can feel to face anxiety and depression by yourself at a young age,” Gomez shared regarding the new initiative. “If I had learned about my mental health earlier on–being taught about my condition in school the way I was taught about other subjects–my journey could have looked very different.”

Everyone can join and help Rare Impact in multiple ways. There’s a petition that advocates for more mental health education in schools, which you can sign here.

You can also donate to the Rare Impact Fund and share Rare Beauty’s informative toolkit on social media. On top of the 1% of sales donated towards the fund, Rare Beauty will also be matching donations to the Rare Impact Fund up to $200,000.

Gomez’s inspiration behind starting Rare Impact and its Mental Health 101 initiative campaign is based on her own experience with mental health and she hopes that it’ll help and inspire other people who may struggle with the same issues.

“I hope that Mental Health 101 will be the stepping stones for others that I wish I had…to get connected to the resources they need and to empower young people in ways that may not have been possible before,” Gomez said.
